Broadly speaking, they were first pressed by Taliban rule, and now they are disgruntled with military presence. They also claim that there have been extra-judicial kidnappings.

Military deployment among civilian populations in every setting in history in the world leads to these kinds of grievances.

PTM‘a current demands are to address those grievances, particularly about kidnappings, and army presence. It’s why even our generals were talking to Pashteen and not maligning him earlier.



It’s not that he has been living under a rock.

The truth is hidden from people by heavy handed army censorship. Any news channel that reported this would be blocked by PEMRA, any journalist that published a column would have it cut. And if anyone went too far, they’d be ‘picked up’ somewhere and threatened.

I don’t blame ordinary Pakistanis for being uninformed and misinformed. How are they to know if news is not allowed to reach them?

Why removal of check posts? This is the main issue. These PTM thugs again want Pakistan to push into explosions and anarchy era.

Check points are disruptive to their lives, and they said specifically they want to end ‘humiliation of locals at army checkpoints’.

Go speak to someone from these areas about these things. They have real grievances. They are ordinary people who suffered under Taliban and are not tired of military presence too.

PTM might have some unsavoury characters in it and some truly seditious people, but it would not be a movement were it not addressing serious grievances of locals in tribal areas. They draw massive crowds to rallies too. And like I said, you have to speak to locals to realise this.

I remember in this forum was some guy who claimed to be from North Waziristan. He criticised army presence and said these things. Back then I thought he was lying, or maybe an Afghan who is anti-Pak and anti Pak army, or maybe even a ttp supporter. But then I heard similar views directly from people I know from these areas. Now I look back and understand what he was saying.

Army has said themselves the moment US leaves next door they will focus on western border.

That's a complete lie. You can contact ISPR HQ and confirm it if you dont believe me. There was no casualties on Army's side.

Let’s agree to disagree then. Eventually, maybe 10 or 15 years from now, the people we’re busy maligning and drawing links to foreign agencies will have their record cleared. This is what has always happened historically, smear attempts and shutting down of dissent never lasts long.

They have their representatives in parliament. Why don't they do the one thing they were elected to do? If their grievances aren't unsubstantiated which i'm sure they aren't in many cases; they'll find the majority of lawmakers standing with them shoulder to shoulder to fix things that have gone wrong over the past few decades.

Sir G, checkpoints are disruptive to every ones life, we have to live with them for improved safety of the area. I don't believe in so called 'humiliation' here in UAE all people from FATA going thru such check posts on daily basis and they feel not 'humiliated' - this is just a cover-up for something else.

May be few genuine grievances needs to be addressed. Now TTP is relocated herself to Afghanistan and border is under fencing, non related posts could be removed.
