Moonis may come in as Deputy Opposition Leader for a stronger PTI-PML-Q opposition

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) is divided over giving the slot of Deputy Opposition Leader to Moonis Elahi of the Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid (PML-Q), party sources told Pakistan Today.

An internal meeting of the PTI Punjab office bearers discussed the issue in length a few days ago, while a strong disagreement surfaced over handing over the slot of the Deputy Opposition Leader to Moonis. Although the slot is unconstitutional, still it is going to yield a lot of influence considering the attention he is going to grab in a house dominated ‘overwhelmingly’ by the PML-N MPAs.

Even on Monday’s elections of the speaker and the deputy speaker, cooperation between PML-Q and PTI was obvious, showing the two are still on the same page.

PTI’s nominee Raja Rashid Hafeez got 35 votes showing an obvious support from the nine Q-leaguers in the house. Similarly, Waqas Hassan Moakal, vying for the slot of deputy speaker grabbed 37 votes clearly showing the votes casted by the PTI MPAs. The move had been proposed to solidify the ties between the two parties and making a strong opposition in a house dominated by the Noon League.

Some of the PTI Punjab stalwarts on anonymity expressed their desire to give in to the Q league’s demand of Deputy Opposition Leader for a stronger opposition especially when the two parties have voted for each other in the PA speaker elections.

“There is no harm if we give the slot of Deputy Opposition Leader to Moonis Elahi, which will only make the opposition united and stronger against a dominating majority,” a senior Punjab PTI office bearer told Pakistan Today.

However, the PTI nominated opposition leader MPA Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed denied any opinion in the party to give the slot to Moonis Elahi. “The PTI has already decided and announced the name of Muhammad Sabtain Khan for the slot of deputy opposition leader and there is no question of giving it to anyone else. The decision came after proper deliberations in the party,” he added.

To a question on stronger opposition, he said, “If the PML-Q has given us nine votes, we have casted 26 votes in their favour. Besides the slot has no constitutional status and is announced only per tradition.”

waise nawaz sharif ko pharono wali hakumat mili hai, kyon kay aaj kal ka Musa stage chartay gir jata hai

I thought PTI opposed Status Quo Parties ? After they formed alliance with Jamat e islami, Sherpao League, Sheikh Rasheed League, now comes Chaudhary League. It getting clearer day by day and what i have noticed so far is the fact that these people and these leagues supported the Establishment. Their alliances with each other today mean their revival. I salute Mahmood Khan Achakzai's statement from the Parliament, lashing out against people taking Oath and supporting Dictators. This cannot work as we are mocking Pakistan and its Constitution !

Its funny when Noon supporter talk about the party of the establishment ...
As far as the Achakzai's statement goes ..he shouldnt have supported Nawaz sharif if he hate people who supported dictataors ... he sound like pure hypocrate ....
As far as PTI goes, they are not supporting anyone to form a government ..they just want to make a strong opposition ...
ab Noon league k tarah friendly opposition karnay ka koi mood nhie ha PTI ka

Even JI and Sherpao Dumped them for Prime ministeral elections. Both have sent a strong signal to PTI for cabinet in KPK. Doesn't it ring any bells that why PTI is delaying the announcement of its cabinet? PTI is stuck everywhere
1- In KPK it will have to take along the independent candidates, JI and JWP. Since PTI has around 38% of seats so it will have to reach long term arrangements with JI,JWP and Independents. JUI-F is likely to remain active in sabotaging their matters.
2- In National Assembly they need MQM for opposition leadership.
3- In Punjab Assembly it will need PML-Q and PPP's support in fielding a unanimous opposition leader.
So testing times are ahead of PTI. My sincerest wishes for them for smooth sailing and serving the greater good of Pakistani people.

The biggest change that they wanted to bring was in education. And lol they hand over this ministry in KPK to JI.

The issues have become much more complex for them. They are exposed to blackmailing of JI and JWP. All of the parties are major stakeholders in KPK and would likely to cash in on any developments. Furthermore, with JI and JUI-F in strong positions, it would be extremely difficult for PTI to introduce uniform educations reform as these parties are not likely to compromise on Marissa systems.
