If there was one single biggest mistake IK made in his 3.5 years rule in my opinion - he was too soft. It's like he thought he is ruling another iteration of Britain. He should have been savage and used the scapel to redifine Pakistan. You can't make 'naya' out of a system that has been laid by Bhutto/Sharifs for well over 40 years. It's deeply entrenched and has vertical and horizontal linkages with army, bureaucracy and judiciary with most media just a off shoot of these ruling dynasties. Although in his defence his ruling majority was wafer thin.
But if he does get back in PM office he had better take out the scalpel straight away and start chopping, slicing the very next morning. So that by the time he leaves the old order has been turfed and new generation of Paks can take over.
He needed to build his reputation with the countries abroad which he has done. The next time they will trust his decision making and he will be ruthless.
The biggest issue is the web of the Sharif family, they are married into literally every key position. It will be difficult to dismantle. Will need to go after the entire family tree.
