Here is my understanding of the origins of ISIS:

The ISI (Islamic State of Iraq) was created in Iraq after they shed their older name: Al-Qaeda in Iraq. Later on, this group and remnants of Baath leaders in Iraq came together, elected Abubakr Al-Baghdadi as their leader and declared the ISIS "caliphate". They had broken off from the main Al-Qaeda group and entered the civil war Syria, seizing the oil fields.

Many of the Syrian rebel groups who were heavily fighting against the Assad-led government reported how ISIS backstabbed them by seizing the oil fields and by attacking them from behind. Many believed at that time that whomever that had a hand in creating ISIS intended to destroy their revolution.

On the Iraqi side, PM Nouri Al-Maliki pursued independence from the occupation of Iraq. However, he failed to address Sunni discontent and grievances. Certain forces in the region and outside used this Sunni discontent to support ISIS in its war against there Iraqi government and its allies. They've also used #ISIS to strengthened their position in Iraq by removing Nouri Al-Maliki from power.

In essence, this ISIS group waged war on Iraqi Government, Syrian government, Syrian rebel groups, Iran, and Turkey.

So when you review all of ISIS' activities in that region, you can see they were setup initially to destabilize as far as we can see 3 countries: Iraq, Syria, and Turkey. You should be able to see then who is destroying the people in that region, who has an interest in the sectarianism, the infighting, and massacres that happened there.

This ISIS group was also introduced in Egypt, Libya, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Yemen.

So to understand who created them, just look at who is using them as an excuse to enter and attack these countries. Who wants the dissolution of these Muslim states? Who in the region do they use by proxy when they want to trigger civil wars and anarchy? It should be obvious.

The problem was created decades ago, Back then Khatami government wanted to increase the price of energy by a few percent every year over a long period of years, So they can reduce the energy subsidies. there is this sense of entitlement with some Iranians regarding oil.

they believe just because Iran has oil, they are entitled to not only have energy for free. but expect the government to hand deliver an oil cheque to them monthly. anything below this is considered theft or somebody stealing their "rights" .

that's why people don't see that Iran is under an economic embargo meant to starve it into submission. while other countries with similar embargos face literal starvation (look at Iraq). some economic decisions have to be made.

Even after this necessary hike, Iran still has some of the cheapest gas prices on earth. and this hike overwhelmingly affects people who are relatively better off (people who own personal vehicles)
