Protests erupt in Iran over gasoline price hike

there is this sense of entitlement with some Iranians regarding oil.

they believe just because Iran has oil, they are entitled to not only have energy for free. but expect the government to hand deliver an oil cheque to them monthly. anything below this is considered theft or somebody stealing their "rights" .

that's why people don't see that Iran is under an economic embargo meant to starve it into submission. while other countries with similar embargos face literal starvation (look at Iraq). some economic decisions have to be made.

Even after this necessary hike, Iran still has some of the cheapest gas prices on earth. and this hike overwhelmingly affects people who are relatively better off (people who own personal vehicles)

its beyond absurd that the taxpayers have to subsidize the fuel some millionaire is pumping into his 100 thousand dollar imported car...…. but don't let that stop some entitled idiots from rioting...… because we all know the best way to solve problems is to burn everything down.....

ISIS never once attack their backers IRAN. nice try at lying.
Stop spreading fake information.

Well if people have this expectation you have to consider from where did they get this expectation... If they riot for this system which promised them free gas and justice and no hejab and separation between mollahs and government, then when they don't get these things the rioters will riot again...

Khomeini said everything will be free. Now his kids see it as their rights to see the government as a daddy, buy me things cheap, give me things for free daddy. This sick mentality and irresponsible behaviour, high expectations is very dangerous for the country...
There is a culture of corruption, lazyness, and expecting that government should care for everything.
No this is not how things work, citizens are as much as responsible for the wellbeing of their country.

if people are dumb enough to stick to revolutionary slogans of 40 years ago. while ignoring the fact that Iran is facing an ECONOMIC EMBARGO, and some of the harshest sanctions a country has ever been hit with..

any western country getting hit with this would result in the breakdown of their society, and people literally starving on the street.

if people cannot recognize this and want to use revoliutionary slogans of a half century ago to justify rioting. Then the only answer they deserve is the business end of a baton...

one of the most famous quotes of john kennedy was

"ask not what your country can do for it, but ask what you can do for your country"

this entitlement culture is absolutely toxic. and a huge threat to national security that can easily be exploited by enemy propaganda

The reason for these sanctions is this regime that made these promises... And the reason people brought this regime is those promises... So you do the math...

this is really ridiculous anyone know that it was Syrian and Iraqi people along with IRan who fought ISIS from day one and Russians joined them later.
you know you can't manipulate some one which saw every thing. i live in eastern azarbaijan province of Iran, almost 5 years ago one day we heard a gun fight outside then we noticed that it was between some afghan loyalists to ISIS and police. that day one of terrorists died and two captured, they were trying to reach turkey and enter Syria.
it is not hard to understand why other nationalities use your soil to enter your neighboring country specially if there is a civil war so either your security forces are idiots or you were deliberately doing that. you can't whitewash what turkey did to Syria.
also you don't know many of ISIS operations against Iran because we didn't published it. for example when daesh was near khanigain there were skirmishes between us but we didn't announced it.
BTW the reason why ISIS couldn't do much to Iran was the reason that most ISIS fighters were Arab and their main tactics to capture cities were infiltration and intimidation. it is hard for and Arab to infiltrate to cities that main language is kurdish.

I agree 100%.
Unfortunately we are passing dangerous times. It's the fault of our government and people. Both sides went for the easy way.
What we need is transformation of our culture and mentality. This is the task of parents, education system, media, culture department.

The Basiji should teach the unorganized elements how to behave

.
Iran fought Isis while Isis fought foes of Iran.
Lies. Did ISIS fight Israel? NO. Did ISIS fight US? NO. If ISIS fought US, then how come Russia had so much ISIS oil infrastructure to destroy due to lack of US attacks on them when it joined the Syrian war? Turkey, NATO and GCC enabled or/and created ISIS, and thats why ISIS did the terrorist attack in Tehran in 2017. ISIS fought ALL of IRan's allies- Assad, Iraqi govt, Taliban(some factions), Yemen so if ISIS was Iran's friend why is ISIS fighting Iran's allies? NO good logic detected bro.

Thugs attacked and burned down public buildings. I hope government identifies these violent hooligans and teaches them a harsh lesson.. we should not tolerate democ-rattic thugs who expect and want everything cheap or for free or else they go and burn down buildings.

Mahmoudabadi stressed that "security forces did not have permission to shoot and were only allowed to fire warning shots... which they did."

He said it was a "calm gathering" that was exploited by some who "destroyed public property, damaged fuel stations and also wanted to access the oil company's main fuel depots and set fire to them".

Their effort was thwarted by forces including the police, the Revolutionary Guards and the Basij militia, Iran’s ISNA news agency quoted him as saying.

Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli told state TV on Saturday that security forces will act to restore calm if the protesters “damaged public properties”.

“Security forces have so far shown restraint and have tolerated the protests. But as the calm and security of people is our priority, they will fulfill their duty to restore calm if attacks on public and individuals’ properties continue,” the minister was quoted as having said.

An Iranian living in an European country... speaking about how Other Iranians shall be shoot for protesting against a corrupt regime... while staying in the comfort of NL... where he could easily win a lawsuit against an NL's policeman if that same agent do not say "Sir" when addressing him...

No Wonder Iranians in Iran look at that diaspora as cancerous cells...
