Will appreciate indian members could share some feedback about Kejriwal, somehow these days on youtube I have been watching short video clips about him, his party and his performance in Delhi.

They claim to have significantly subsidized the electricity, improve the schools, provide water, improve the government offices and hospitals, are working to improve the sanitation and seem like they are taking advantage of technology to benefit their citizens. The common people who were interviewed had very positive comments about Kejriwal and wanted to see him as CM or Pardhan Mantri.

Is this true that he has performed very well?

And what are his chances of ever becoming an indian PM? If he suppose becomes a PM, what are his views on Pakistan and relations with Pakistan?

@DrJekyll @Joe Shearer @xeuss @SirHatesALot and other indian members please.

The PDF is from a government server and those promises have come false. For example where is the 15 lakh rupees per citizen in 2022 that Modi promised in 2014 that he said will be arranged by bringing in all the illegally stashed money outside the country ? I myself want to start a company and 15 lakhs will go a good way to fund the company's start. Then there is the insurance for crops scheme.

Modi talks and talks but doesn't walk the talk...this makes him a promising(ever after) and clever politician. And in India, this part of the world, words speaks louder than actions it seems for the innocent gullible masses and people will keep falling to the promises of politicians. Sad state of affairs...

BJP IT wing will discredit and destroy Kejriwal. He has no chance to become PM.

In fact, no one can win in UP without building a temple or two. I don't see inclination from Kejriwal to do that. :cray:

Nope, they know Modi for PM and Kejri for Delhi (for freebies not knowing their moneys comes back to them instead of being used in creating jobs and improving infra).

That is what I said if they find Kejriwal fit for CM and don't want him for PM then they are a bunch of selfish people.

Kejriwal has made claims about creating and providing 1 million jobs, is that a lie?

Well, the only success he has had is limited to the Delhi region, some in Punjab, plus just presences in few areas. In all of these areas he is facing hard opposition and is under pressure.

South Asian politics is fairly similar in all countries, you need to have an enormous political structure in place, and sharp political acumen, coupled with a momentum you can cash at the right time. When he came on the scene, he had some sort of a momentum, which he was unable to cash-in except in the capital region. He is just a minnow trying his best to remain visible on the political landscape of India.

India has fixed power centres, and it wont change in the foreseeable future.

The BJP, backed by the RSS and Hindu organisations.

A distance second Congress party, it is still relevant because of it's support structures, and the fact despite not winning too many seats, it is able to garner electoral votes across the country, that has a value of its own, meaning with effective leadership and a backlash against the BJP, they can make a comeback.

Then you have a plethora of regional parties, who will always remain relevant no matter the fortunes of the BJP or the Congress.

You have to remember it took the BJP nearly 100 years to take over Indian governance, now they are completely in-charge, they existed in different shapes and forms, they were banned but they kept at it, changing names, creating alliances to survive the ground realities, but here they are, from the RSS to the BJP is one single unbroken line.

In this setup, the likes of Kejriwal are just item numbers, one hit wonders, who get lot of attention, but are completely irrelevant in the greater scheme of things.
You understand Indian politics more than most Indians do

Delhi is a cosmopolitan city, so shouldn't that help negating the negative propaganda? People compare, they tell stories to each other, to family back home.

This is all based on premise that Kejriwal actually has performed.

My interest in Kejriwal is limited to what he thinks about Pakistan and having relations with Pakistan?

Kejriwal and his tactics did perturb modi, if he was a minnow Modi would never have called him AK49 and agent of Pakistan.

I am not saying that Kejriwal can become a PM in next elections but in future after say 10 or 20 years this Aam admi party can make a big dent if they keep addressing the majority helpless people and their problems. Pakistan hating voters will remain so, others too but a large no. of indians will someday want the same treatment as the others are getting under aam admi governed areas. If Kejriwal manages to win Punjab and fulfils his promises he and his party surely should be treated as emerging tough competition. After all the common majority South Asians will vote for the CM who rode their rickshaw, went to their sat and ate from their plate.

I think Pakistan should explore this option because we keep saying we don't want war, for that we need to have someone serious on other side and who is interested in dialogue and not the current hate spreading joker.

I see what you are saying, but in India, they even call pigeons, balloons and camels as Pakistani spy, it's a silly obsession. Personally, I wouldn't read too much into such attacks, they'll use any attack that will give them extra votes. And, Pakistan sells.

You logic would make sense in normal circumstances, but most states in India are irrelevant for national power, they have value but what really matters are the big states, that's the UP, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Bihar, Tamil Nadu and few others all of these states have 40+ seats in the Lok Sabha, Punjab has just 13.
UP is right next to Delhi, it has 80 seats in the Lok Sabha, if he was to make serious inroads in UP, then you can start to take him seriously even then it would be a long road, but at least he could be taken seriously. In my opinion zero chance.

Pakistani provinces have equal share in the Senate, but Indian states do not, smaller states get a smaller share, so winning smaller states doesn't help in the Rajya Sahba either.

These northern sates also will likely increase their share in the Lok Sabha, because in India the seat distribution is frozen according to an agreement signed around 40 years ago I think, it stipulates, no matter the results of the census, the distribution of seats in the Lok Sabha will remain fixed. There is an argument going on right now, if this agreement should continue or not. The northern states population share has increased significantly and southern share has decreased, it is an extremely serious issue, because their National Finance Commission also has a similar agreement in place. Touch one and the other is also effected.

Pakistan has no role whatsoever, if Pakistan wants a party to lose, al it has to do is make overtures, and friendly statements for that party and they lose millions of votes overnight. That's the atmosphere in India. In my view best thing is sit on the side lines and enjoy the show, much the same approach Pakistan should use in Afghanistan and Iran. Look inwards and let the rest sort out their own mess. Only deal with issues that effect Pakistan directly, other countries internal politics is none of our business.

Delhi's cosmopolitan standard is not sufficient. At best, he can win some sympathy in the surrounding regions. But even that will not translate to votes. Indians do not have the political maturity to see beyond propaganda. Very similar to Trump's followers.

As for Pakistan, almost every Indian has a negative opinion of Pakistan. The degree of the suspicions on Pakistan may vary, but it will be there nevertheless. It will be suicidal for Indian politicians to support Pakistan in a credible way. Doing so will go against the confirmation bias that the majority of voters hold as immutable truth. But having said that, Kejriwal has at times criticised Modiji for playing the Pakistan card to distract the public from his administrative failures. The elites in Delhi may agree with Kejriwal.

Plus Kejriwal even after providing free amenities has been able to produce a favorable budget, I agree with him on one thing that money is there it is only if you are willing to spend it on people.

This is it, this strong belief is required for tabdeeli and reforms.

And this is what PM Imran Khan has said exactly when starting the 400 billion Rs. Punjab Sehat Card.

He said that 'the fact that people here and leaders earlier thought that they cannot start any social and welfare schemes and they will do when there is some capital.

He added 'On the contary my belief is that once you start a welfare scheme for socially deprived people Allah grants the barkat and people prayers helps in success of that programs'.

And the positive vibes these kind of welfare oriented programs like 'Ehsaas' generates is huge.

This is the same thing like, Govt: when people will pay taxes, the govt. would be able to do things for the masses.
People: When govt. will do something people will pay taxes.

I am not asking for support that is impossible neither Pakistanis want it, we can remain enemies but some of things have to change. This hatred brought by Hindutva BJP RSS types is not something that is healthy for this region. If this keeps going on, things will change for the worst and it would be common people suffering.

As against Modi who spends money on weaponry, on his 20,000 crore pet project in Delhi - Central Vista which includes a new palace for him, on purchase of his two special Boeing planes, on building statues associated with Hindutvad, on building temples, other such things.

@Wood @Sudarshan, can you explain why you laughed at post# 10 where I posted news of people suiciding or dying because of lack of money in a society where everything needs money and pushes you to suicide if you cannot come up with the extortion money ? Do you not have empathy ?

No. He will not and cannot in the near future (at least 2 more general elections)

The reasons are various and many already touched upon by other learned members. I will add some more:

  1. The only way he could ever dream of becoming PM is by being PM candidate of a coalition of many regional parties. His own party will never have the financial muscle to fight elections all over India. Even some of the bigger parties don't have this muscle.
  2. The chances that a coalition will select him as a PM candidate is next to impossible. He is an outsider in Indian politics and they hate upstarts. There are oldies who have been dreaming of becoming PM all their lives, and the last thing they want to do is appoint some upstart as their PM candidate.
  3. He will have no say in the coalition if all he can show in election results is a few seats in Delhi or Punjab. He doesn't resonate with people outside a small pocket in north. He tried within his limited means to contest elections in some urban areas in various regions, but fared very badly, denting his image as someone to whom at least urban Indians could look up to.
Now the question is whether he deserves to. I can't say. I don't live in Delhi, although I am from that region and most of my extended family lives there. So I have heard only opinions and they are mixed. Some dislike his socialist tendencies but appreciate that the rule has been without corruption and drama. It is a fact that BJP tried to make his life difficult in Delhi. For the BJP it was like a 10 year old kid had thrashed their best pehalwan within inches of his life - a massive humiliation which they took a long time to come out of.

Lastly, I find it a bit disappointing that people are so unwilling to give a chance to someone different. We are bankrupt of choices in Indian politics, and when someone new comes, we don't leave any stone unturned to pull him down with all sort of excuses. We show that same dislike of upstarts that his competitors do, whereas we are not even competing with him.
