I am sure that decision makers in Pakistan will look at the complete picture when deciding the way forward for Pakistan that best serves its national interests. No path is ideal for any country, but the best possible compromise that gets closest to the ideal, is quite often achievable.

I think the US should put itself on notice for not doing enough to tackle safe havens in Afghanistan, Like I said before Pakistan has done its part to cleanse safe havens on its side, If the US has any intelligence on the whereabouts of the said safe havens, they should share it with Pakistan, but I guess Americans are crying loud due to CPEC.

Self-inflicted on the part of Pakistan. Americans will do what they must after having expended trillions. Its a situation of a sunk-cost investment for them. For Pakistan, the narrative is incoherent. I suspect more Salala like incidents but despite that, the situation on the ground won't change. After 4 more years, Trump will realize that this is not worth it so he will maintain a presence in Afghanistan to play spoiler for the Russians and the Chinese but will discard the idea of nation building.

The Ghani government or its variant will have control of Kabul and its environs and the business will continue alone. The alternate that could be is one where Taliban do come to the table and there are serious talks, but in this atmosphere of threats and blusters and more kinetic actions, that is an impossibility for now.
