Biman defers flight from London by a day as Zillur could not fly

As many as 340 Biman passengers, scheduled to fly today from London to Dhaka, are facing a delay of about 24 hours because their flight has a seat reserved for President Zillur Rahman and he is unable to make it before tomorrow.

Now all the passengers will have to fly tomorrow with the president, top Biman officials in Dhaka and London say. The flight has been rescheduled after Bangabhaban officials had informed the Biman office that the president will not come today.

The Daily Star could not know why Zillur Rahman cancelled his trip today.

Contacted, AR Chisty, country manager of Biman's UK and Ireland office, said, "The honourable president was supposed to fly to Dhaka on BG- 006 flight at 17 :45 [London time].

“Another 340 homebound passengers have booked the flight.”

"But the flight has been delayed for 24 hours due to aircraft constraint," he told The Daily Star over the telephone, adding that they have informed all the passengers about the delay. "Even we have aired advertisements on a local TV to this effect."

He said the passengers have been urged to report to the airport Monday.

Top Biman officials in Dhaka also confirmed the news.

The Daily Star came to know about the reschedule as a passenger sent an email that reads, "I am a passenger flying from London to Sylhet this Sunday, December 23. The president is flying with us. The government of Bangladesh decided to cancel our flight because the president decided not to go on Sunday.”

“How can you cancel a flight just for one person while people like me booked our tickets for this holiday seven months ago? This is a disgrace for our country," said the passenger from his/her iPhone without disclosing identity.

President Zillur Rahman left Dhaka for London last week on a nine-day visit for a medical check-up.

Read it on newspaper.

Piece of advise: Don't fly on Beiman

.
Bangladesh seriously needs to buy a small jet for VIPs. Its shame to see our PM and President is hanging with passenger jet along with civilians.

I dont blame Biman for the delay. Biman just cant leave the president of the country behind.

This has nothing to do with Biman. This is about how Awami League president acting like street thug and held hostage 340 passengers.

Govt needs to buy a plane for dignitaries. President's schedule may change for numerous reason. Biman can not leave him behind. I am repeating "BIMAN CAN NOT LEAVE PRESIDENT OF THE COUNTRY BEHIND" He could be the president from BNP as well. I remember your Iajuddin had to go to Singapore several times and Biman gave him protocol.

Biman should had arranged alternatives for 340 passenger or offer a free ticket for next fly.

.
The 340 passengers should play hell into the BD Pres all the way from London to Dhaka for his insensivity and the loss / trouble he has caused to them.

If the BD Pres had to travel in a regular flt , why delay Biman ? He cud have taken any other airline.

For God's sake, he is the president of the country. The national flag carrier has to wait for him. He and Bangladesh deserve that respect.

I again suggest, govt to buy a plane for President and PM like every other respectable country so that they dont have to fly with passenger.

If govt need to buy plane or not that does does not matter and try to spin that is futile. If Zillur wants to ride on his own jet then he should look for another country where he gets that benefit. Biman SHOULD left with its passenger and awami president instead of acting like hostage taking awami thug should have rebooked his ticket on next flight.

He could have transferred to another flight. It doesn't mean that all other passengers must suffer. It's absurd.

But I agree, there should be a separate jet for high government officials. They are not too expensive.

Dude you are just a hopeless person..YOu cant see anything outside your party affiliation. I repeat again "BIMAN CAN NOT LEAVE THE PRESIDENT OF THE COUNTRY BEHIND UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES". I knw you wont understand what that bolded part mean as you are too illeterate to understand that

No he is the president of Bangladesh. I can not ascribe to your proposition to dump him in another plane with bunch of unknown civilians. Other airlines are not obligated to provide him with protocol and necessary security.

Where in Biman's policy does it say that?
