PML-Q will play neutral role in Punjab: Shujaat
LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) announced on Sunday that it would play a neutral role in the politics of Punjab apparently marking an end to speculation over an alliance with either the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) or the PML-Nawaz (PML-N) to form the provincial government.
The announcement was made by PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain at a press conference after a meeting of the partys central executive committee (CEC). Shujaat said the decision had been made because we are not hungry for power.
He said his party had no issues with sitting on opposition benches in the provincial assembly. Shujaat said political parties should work to strengthen the economy of the country, instead of focusing on forming government in Punjab. He congratulated Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on being reinstated, and hoped that the rule of law would prevail in the country.
Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said those who wanted others to respect their mandate should also recognise the PML-Qs mandate. nauman tasleem
