In his Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that a spate of rape cases have shamed India; he urged parents to take responsibility for the actions of their sons.
"When we hear about these rapes, our heads hang in shame," the PM said in an unscripted speech from Red Fort in the capital.
""Those who commit rape are also someone's sons. You should stop them before they take the wrong path," the PM said at a time when sexual violence against women and children has ignited national outrage and debate.
"Even when they are only 12, young girls are always being asked so many questions by their parents, like 'where are you off to?'.
But do these parents ask their sons where they are going?" he asked. "The law will take its own course but as a society every parent has a responsibility to teach their sons the difference between right and wrong," the PM said.

After the fatal gang-rape of a young student on a Delhi bus in 2012, new laws were introduced to punish sexual offences. But gang-rapes have been reported since then in Mumbai, considered the country's safest city for women. Last month, a six-year-old was raped in her school in Bangalore, triggering national anger and protests.

PM Modi on Rape Cases: Correct Sons, Don't Question Daughters

One Daughter Can Serve Parents More Than 5 Sons: PM Modi's Top 10 Quotes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed the nation from the Red Fort in his first Independence Day speech. He spoke extempore, without a bullet-proof glass giving him cover.
10 things that PM Modi said in his speech
  1. To all Indians celebrating our Independence Day, greetings from the Pradhan Sewak. I stand before you not as Pradhan Mantri (Prime Minister) but Pradhan Sevak (Prime servant)
  2. It is a tribute to Indian democracy that a person from a poor family, an ordinary family, is today addressing the nation from the Red Fort.
  3. I tell the world - Come, Make In India. Sell anywhere but manufacture here. We have the skill and talent.
  4. All previous governments have a hand in developing India. State governments have a hand in it as well. I offer my respect to all previous governments and Prime Ministers.
  5. We want to move forward not on the basis of our majority but on consensus. The session that just ended reflects our thinking. We don't believe in the force of majority. We worked with everyone. The credit for this goes not to the PM but the MPs and the opposition.
  6. I am an outsider to Delhi. But an outsider came to Delhi and got an insider view. I was surprised. It was as if in one government there were different governments.
  7. We have seen instances of communal violence for too long. Till when will this go on? Be it caste or communal violence, they stall the growth of the nation.
  8. Have we seen our sex ratio? Who is creating this imbalance? Not God. I appeal to the doctors not to kill the girl child in the mother's womb. I request the parents not to kill daughters because they want a son. Don't kill daughters in the womb, it is a blot on 21st century India. I have seen families where one daughter serves parents more than five sons.
  9. The world used to think we are a land of snake charmers and black magic. But our youth has surprised the world with its IT skills.
  10. Our heads hang in shame when we hear about rapes. Parents ask about daughters but did anyone dare ask their sons. After all, the rapist is someone's son. As parents, have we asked our sons where he is going? Why not put same yardstick for sons too

@noksss Title of the thread is wrong..... He never said don't question daughters.... The essence of his speech was, Parents always worry about their daughters, and they always question them, where they went, with whom they went etc etc..... But do they ask the same when their son go out? If you question your son the same way, probably the rapes wont happen, as the guy who commit rape is some one's son...... (this is the overall meaning of his speech, there may be errors in the phrases used by me)

What is his stance on Bollywood? I think a lot of rapes and violence is being spread because of "some" movies.
