However, Mr. Gambit, have you no idea that the PRC's military budget was literally and comparatively paltry throughout the 80's and most of the 90's?

Deng was in fact a believer of "beating the sword into the plow" - so much so that he ordered the PLA to "take up business opportunities" while cutting its funding globally, which resulted in a disastrous, utterly corrupt, poor man's "Military-Business Complex", if you will ...

Anyhow, if it wasn't for the 2nd Iraq War, and the bombing of Belgrade preceding it - by none other than the Great Plutocracy Itself, it would've been better indeed if all this DF-this-and-that were taken apart, and scrap-metaled into toasters.
Then why bother with a military parade? For what purpose? Ever notice that just about all dictatorial regimes love weapons parade in front of its own people? Why not have a parade of fancy sport cars? Or those so called 'classic cars'? Why not a parade of beauty queens that the men of the country can be proud of? Heck...Why not a parade of household appliances for the women? Why not a parade of computer chips for the geeks? The majority of Americans are not gun owners and for those who are gun owners, like myself, they are more happy and proud of the tools in their garages than their firearms. That point may be too subtle for some.

Here is what most people on this forum fail to understand...That there is no such thing as 'military technology'. What we have are the adoptions and adaptations of technology by the military and those adaptations are called 'weapons'. The heating coil is the technology and the toaster is the adaptation of that technology. A rifle is no different from a toaster in that each item is uniquely qualified to perform a very specific task and each tool is the final development of and for that task. I can add temperature controls to the toaster and you can add repeating firing mechanism to the rifle but I can no more use this advanced toaster to plow a field anymore than you can use a machine gun to paint a wall in your house.

So for the past sixty years under communist rule, what have China done other than adopt and adapt technologies, and from technologies not of her own creation at that, into 'weapons'? Whose fault is that? The Zionists again? No...Do not blame what the US does in Iraq or its incompetence that resulted in the Chinese embassy in Belgrade incident. Those are red herring arguments designed to distract from the real issue -- that despite a second to none ancient history in technology, nothing good came out of China for the past sixty years while under communist rule.

China is showing the military power through a parade while the US is actually dropping bombs all over the world killing innocent ppl and occupying territories of other countries buy throwing shameless lies.

Looks like Americans are more of a "doer" and love the taste of blood in stead of posing before the camera.

Well, that's sad, of course not for US, but for the rest of the world
Ah...So you admit that the Chinese military is only as good at being a 'poseur' as it is at tasting the blood of its own people.

Dude you are losing your last bit of common sense.
What do you expect to see from a book written by a right wing extremist and a Chinese hater?
You are quoting from someone that give you the idea rooted in your mind to prove your own point. Does that make any sense?
Give yourself a break and think like ordinary ppl.
Why not read the book and dispute its CONTENTS instead of disparaging the character of the author? Or is what he researched too uncomfortable for you to bear?

Ah...So you admit that US government can commit crimes and killing human beings.. as long as they are not US "own people"

Which is partially true, will Americans give a damn if US troop slaughter one million Iraqis?

Why not open your mind and try to at least listen to opinions from both side?
Why not give up the idea that the US can only survive by killing anyone else on the planet?

you are right. our government didn't lie about the WMD in Iraq and then send troops to kill civilians there. we don't have a "poseur" president who keep saying "yes, we can" when we need to borrow dozens of billions every damn single month.

The Chinese government was in bed with Saddam Hussein during the sanction years, just in case you did not know. And you are probably in no position to debate the 'WMD' issue with me, technical or else.
