PA's New Haider MBT is the T99A /2 - Type99 MBT under consideration for mass local production at HIT.

The version previously tested by Pak Army was the T90 and T99 mix, called the MBT 3000 / VT4, which is thought to have failed.

T99A is the full specification advanced model, which Pakistan showed its initial interest as the Next Generation Haider Project, where as China decided to scale down the version and form a less armour variant of T90 and T99 mix, called the MBT 3000 / VT-4, which is certainly better than the T90 but less capable then the T99A. By comparison to Russian tanks, they say MBT 3000 is better than T-90S and T-90AM models, forcing Russia to put its cutting-edge T-14 Armata on the market.

Pakistan Army is now testing T99A as Haider prototype and This main battle tank on finalisation will show a mixture of Pakistani, Russian, Ukrainian and Western influence in it's design and technology would be called the HAIDER MBT, the full scale, full armour, highly advanced, powerful MBT for the Pakistan Army in operationation and would be deployed in different roles to AK/AKII MBTs.

What is the Type 99 MBT?

T99 main battle tank is the most advanced tank in China. The T99 provides a significant improvement in firepower, mobility, and protection compared to older Chinese-made tanks. The Type 99 main battle tank and most advanced tank and is a further development of the Type 98 MBT and the full advanced version of VT-4 / MBT 3000.T99 main battle tank shows a mixture of Russian and Western influence in it's design and technology.

The Type 99 MBT features improved armor protection over the Type 98 and was also inducted in the scaled down export version VT-4. Turret of the Type 99 has a Leopard 2A5-style wedge-shaped modular add-on explosive reactive armor. Damaged sections to be replaced or upgraded when more advanced armor is available. It is claimed that the front protection of the Type 99 MBT is equivalent to 1 000 - 1 200 mm of steel armor. Vehicle is equipped with NBC protection and automatic fire suppression systems.

This main battle tank is fitted with unique active laser protection system, which uses a high-powered laser to disrupt missiles laser or infrared guidance signal, disable enemy observation optics and damage eyesight of enemy gunner. This active laser protection system can also be used against helicopters.

The Type 99 tank is armed with a fully-stabilized ZPT98 125-mm smoothbore gun, fitted with a carousel-type autoloader. Both the main gun and the autoloader were copied from the Soviet/Russian designs. The Type 99 has a rate of fire in 8 rpm using autoloader and 1 - 2 rpm loading manually. It fires APFSDS, HEAT and HE-FRAG rounds. It is reported that this MBT also uses more capable APFSDS rounds with depleted uranium penetrators.

The Type 99 main battle tank is compatible with Russian 9K119 Refleks (AT-11 Sniper) gun-launched anti-tank guided missiles, fired in the same manner as ordinary projectiles. China produces this anti-tank missile system under license. This missile has a maximum effective range of 4 - 5 km and can target helicopters. Four AT-11 Sniper missiles are carried.
Secondary armament consists of 7.62-mm coaxial machine gun and 12.7-mm anti-aircraft MG.

The tank is fitted with new computerized fire control system. It incorporates laser rangefinder and automatic target tracker. This MBT can engage moving targets accurately, while on the move. It has a high first round hit probability against stationary and moving targets, while the tank is firing on the move. tank is fitted with advanced thermal imaging and panoramic sights, and has a hunter-killer capability. Fire control system of this tank is clearly superior to those, used by the Soviet T-72 series tanks. It might even be superior to that, used by the Russian T-90 MBT.

Unusual feature for main battle tanks is a laser communication device. It is mounted behind commander's hatch and is used for a line of sight information transmission. It can send encrypted text, data or voice messages. Furthermore it is used for friend or foe identification. This system has an effective range of 3 600 m. Tank can also be fitted with GPS receiver for navigation and positioning.

The Type 99 has a crew of three, including commander, gunner and driver, complete modular layout.

Hull of the Type 99 MBT is very similar to the Soviet T-72, but is one meter longer. Vehicle is powered by a turbocharged diesel engine, developing 1 500 horsepower. This engine is based on the German MTU 871 Ka-501 technology. The Type 99 has a high power to weight ratio and subsequently good mobility and cross-country performance. It is worth mentioning that the hull of the Type 99 is very similar to that of the Soviet T-72 main battle tank. External fuel tanks can be carried at the rear of the hull for longer range.

Some of the Type 99's technologies were used to upgrade Chinese Type 96 main battle tanks to the Type 96G standard.

Variants

Type 99G, sometimes referred as Type 99A2. It has a number of improvements, related with fire control, targeting and countermeasures systems. It can be identified by autonomous commander thermal imaging viewer;

VT1A a simplified version intended for export. It is in service with Morocco, Peru, and possibly some other countries; VT-4 is the more advanced version.

Armored recovery vehicle fitted with a crane and a dozer blade. It was first observed in 2014.

Type 99

The basic variant of the Type 99 series. The latest variant that is in full service is the Type 99A2 with a 1,500- hp water cooled diesel engine and getting re-designed at some parts. The newest in trial is the Type 99KM.

The Type 99A2 has increased armor on the turret. The self-defense laser module has been replaced by an active defensive module. The ZTZ-99A2 also installed ERA on the front and side turret. The tank hull will follow the MBT 2000 configuration instead of the previously used hull.

Type 99G

CNGC has been deploying a further modified version of the ZTZ99, possibly known as ZTZ99G. A photo released by the Chinese official Xinhua News Agency in February 2008 revealed an improved variant of the ZTZ99 that features newly designed observation and active protection system (APS).The commander viewer of the new tank appears to be slightly larger than that of the basic variant ZTZ99, suggesting a possible independent commander thermal imaging viewer.

Type 99A

Successor to the Type 99G and predecessor to the Type 99A1.

Type 99A1

The Type 99A1 is the latest version in service of the PLA while the the more advanced variant the Type 99A2 is still in various trials and is not expected to enter service before the end of 2009. While the earlier Type 99 that entered service several years ago had additional armor packages on the original Type 98 turret and the chassis, the Type 99A1 has its turret top reshaped, having the hump on the turret's top removed by thickening it. This might be the result for changing the height of the turret itself to improve more protection or more space for the tank commander and gunner. Other distinct details are the armor packages on the front and at its sides, the ERA panels have been extended. The Type 99A1 might also have received further upgrades in terms of targeting computers etc.

Type 99A2

The much-improved Type 99 variant, with many major upgrades and improvements. Improvements are so significant that the A2 can almost be considered as a new tank. Some of the improvement and upgrades include a reaction improved aiming system, a digital battlefield information terminal, a newly designed arrow-shaped armor, a larger turret, an expanded tail chamber, an Active Protection System mounted on the turret with millimeter-wave radar, a new commander's periscope and an Integrated Propulsion System.

Type 99KM

The newest and much-improved variant, with newer modular active protection system , JD-4 active laser defense system, more powerful engine, and more. It is also equipped with a 155 mm gun capable of firing next-generation kinetic rounds .

So, Heard something about MBT 99A going to Pakistan already and will it be the future Haider MBT?

oh bhai its here for just testing purpose, that too is a rumor!

Are we going to just test and trail or actually select one, I think T99A / T99KM is the perfect tank for Pak Army to do local customisation for its Haider MBT.

After Oplot-M, VT-4 and now T99A, T99A looks the best for PA.

@Umair Nawaz That is not rumour and @AsianUnion Where you got this from ? Sources ? Link ?

. . .
It's here for testing and we all know how Pakistani terrain turned out to be for Abrams, Oplot and VT-4.
One day try to be optimistic I can assure you it would feel good but I want link of the article posted in OP

. . . . .
Pakistan should get out of Chinese Black mailing of getting main weaponry contracts from Pakistan....btw, this is the cost we are paying for 'All Weather, Time tested Friendship'

Why not considering Armata T-14/15?
Its specifications are suitable for Pakistan's requirements.

.
No local source worthy of salt has confirmed it.

Black caps are trying to create an armored force completely compatible with C4ISR infrastructure. All elements of the armored corps would be networked and night/fog operationability will be a basic requirement.

What happened to the 282 upgraded t55 from serbia?
