Panama Case - Post Verdict Discussion and Updates

The PML-N government has decided to cut the security detail being provided to members of the joint investigation team (JIT) which had probed allegations of financial misappropriation and money laundering against their party chief and his family.

"We have received reports that the JIT members and their children are being provided more security than necessary," State Minister Talal Chaudhry said on Wednesday.

"Rangers' vehicles accompany even the children of the JIT members when they go to buy vegetables," Chaudhry claimed, saying the government had decided to retract the extra security provided to members of the team.

"The JIT members will be provided only with necessary security," the minister added.

"The SC has had a lot to say with regards to the JIT members: they are being provided with a lot, in accordance with the Supreme Court's observations," Chaudhry said, taking a snipe at the apex court.

It may be recalled that the members of the JIT had faced at least one open threat while they were conducting their investigations into the Sharif family's business dealings.

In May, Senator Nehal Hashmi had delivered an incendiary speech, an apparent outburst against the judiciary, that cost him his membership of the ruling PML-N.

In what was seen as an effort to prove his loyalty to the Sharif family, Hashmi had warned the individuals conducting the SC-sanctioned investigation that they would be "taken to task" for grilling the premier's family and that even their children would not be safe from "retribution".

The chief justice had taken suo motu notice of Hashmi's speech, which had also led the former PML-N leader to resign from the Senate. Later, however, Hashmi had retracted his resignation.

During a hearing of the case against Hashmi in the SC, the court had likened the government to the Sicilian mafia.

"It seems that the government's self-proclaimed spokespersons let no opportunity for maligning the courts slip by," Justice Ejaz Afzal had remarked.

SC said no action to be taken against any JIT members without informing SC .... JIT members should report the matter to monitoring Judge as there were special directions by SC for JIT members

Bhai jaldi se ajai faisla...

Nahee bhai, jaldi na hee aay.

Just like Review ka faisla agar jaldi aata tu itna mukammal aur bhari na hota jitna ham admire karr rahay hain...jaisay panama bench ka unanimous faisla rushed tha (due to everyone's demand) aur kai details jo shamil ki jaa sakti theen woh missing theen jo abb review maen explain karna par gaeen Justice Afzal ko. Not to blame the judges as it was everybody's demand at that time but in retrospect, it was not a good demand. Let's not make the same demand again.

@Realistic Change band nawaz shareef sai puche kai ' hun aram e ' after the SC verdict ..

They knew they were done long time ago; when they were told “we are with law” - shared here tons of times too - after that all they were doing was hoping against the hope aka some magic and firing on political front hoping that they’ll be able to sell the unique narrative for next elections - but even that can’t work!

Even if they are able to save the dissolution till March 2018 - there will be unique bahaney of MNA/MPA’s like school 5 year old kids used to make for not doing homework.....there was no light yesterday, therefore couldn’t book flight for Islamabad :)

how true are the rumors of forward block in pmln & where does Ch. Nisar & Shahbaz stand ?

how true are the rumors of forward block in pmln & where does Ch. Nisar & Shahbaz stand ?

Don’t think there will be forward block (in traditional terms) before Mar 2018 - large majority of electables (on personal or party vote bank) have same modus operandi for a five year term which is;

1. Invest anywhere between Rs.50 - 150 million to get elected on PA/NA seat.
2. Get original invested money back (obviously they can’t get it back from salaries) and very very few would invest the above amount for the love of public service :)
3. In 5th year do some trophy projects from tax payers money; so in elections, these shining trophies can be encashed for next 5 year of awaami khidmat;)

The funds via tax payers money are normally released by political governments near elections or when they are sure that their days are numbered.

As per above now and till March 2018 or when assemblies get dissolved is the time to plan for next five years by persons who contest elections, and you know Rs95 billion as reported are to be allocated for “tarraqqi” - therefore now is the time to encash.

Shahbaz can’t go against Nawaz as of today, nor Nisar can do it on his own. Nisar has played extremely smart from the start; he is hoping to be top guy in PMLN by the virtue of circumstances not by revolt - he can’t pull a revolt - anyways!

Shahbaz will almost sign his political death warrant if he goes against Nawaz at the height of the drama of absurdity being directed by those of Nawaz aides who will not get elected anyways in the next term nor they will be welcome in any form of PMLN sans Nawaz. It’s catch 22 for Shahbaz - as his future is as uncertain as of Talal, Daniyal, Zahid Hamid, Parvez Rasheed, Mushahidullah and....Maryam ;) therefore he would most like stay put - and hope against the hope!

Sharifs have ridden the crest of luck very liberally ....they seem to have run out of luck so bad - that their bad luck streak seems highly contagious too - anywhere they went to get saved or hide .....also got embroiled in either corruption or hiding offshore!
