Pakistan's New Military Offensive in Kurram and Khyber

Why they take hostage after the attack, whom they eventually use as trophy kill? Is it insurence against air/drone attack after the raid?
Disgusting!
RIP to those soldiers..

The New Year has seen a surge in terrorist attacks on Pakistani forces. We saw another one yesterday by the TTP who claimed responsibility. Our condolences go out to the families of the seven soldiers killed. Have we noticed that over the last month more than 75 brave Pakistani soldiers have been killed in terrorist attacks? The US-Pakistan relationship has suffered some setbacks in the last few months and the terrorists have taken advantage of this. Now is the time to focus on our relationship and cooperation and together turn our attention on the common enemy. Flushing them out from their hideouts and eliminating them is the only way peace can return to the region, which has already suffered much at the hands of the terrorists.

FC soldier killed in militant attack | Provinces | DAWN.COM

LANDI KOTAL/D.I. KHAN, Feb 3: Bara tehsil and Tirah valley of Khyber Agency remained in the grip of violence, as one Frontier Constabulary soldier was killed and four others were injured in a pre-dawn attack by militants on Friday, while a girls’ school was blown up in Dera Ismail Khan. Also, four suspected militants were killed and three others wounded in different parts of the agency.

Officials in Bara said that activists of Lashkar-i-Islam militant group attacked a security checkpost in Malakdinkhel area, leaving one FC soldier dead and four others wounded. They said that two suspected militants were killed during the security forces’ operation in the area soon after the attack.

The injured soldiers were taken to a military hospital in Peshawar.

Sources in Tirah valley said that an activist of a militant organisation was killed and three others were wounded when volunteers of Lashkar-i-Islam and its rival group clashed in Akkakhel area.

The officials said that a bridge in Shalobar area was partially damaged when a time device planted to it exploded on Friday morning. Forces have recently established a number of checkposts in Shalobar area of Bara after nearly 3,000 families vacated their houses and shifted to Jalozai camp in Nowshera.

Of late, the area has witnessed a surge in militant attacks on the security forces and is under curfew since November last year.

In Bazaar Zakhakhel area of Landi Kotal, an explosion outside the house of a local elder killed his son and injured two of his other family members. No one has claimed responsibility for the blast.

The Zakhakhel tribe revolted against Mangal Bagh-led Lashkar-i-Islam in April last year and after forcing the LI activists to leave their area, they now have found their own armed group, Tawheedul Islam. In Dera Ismail Khan, unidentified terrorists blew up a government girls’ school in Kotla Saidan late on Friday night.

Quoting an FIR lodged on the complaint of school watchman Taqi Shah, police said that five armed men entered the school, tied Mr Shah with ropes and blew up the building after planting explosives in the classrooms. The Dera Township police station registered the case and has started investigations. According to police, about 40kg of high explosive material was used in the attack.

Roadside bomb attack kills soldier in Kurram | Pakistan | DAWN.COM

PARACHINAR: A homemade bomb exploded next to a Pakistani military vehicle in the Alizai area of the northwestern Kurram tribal region, near the Afghanistan border, killing one soldier, security officials said.

Government official, Jamil Khan says militants opened fire on the troops after the blast Sunday in the Kurram tribal area. Twelve soldiers were wounded.

Khan said the convoy had been dispatched to provide reinforcements to the Sheendand area of Kurram, where militants had set up a hide-out. It is unclear whether any militants were wounded or killed in the fighting.

The Pakistani Taliban have killed thousands of troops and other security officials throughout the country in the past few years.

using fighters for coin ops is like using an axe to kill a mosquito sitting on top of a civilian head.
I take it you apply that particular line of argument to the much more extensive use of air assets against insurgents by the US/ISAF as well?

Does less drone attack has some relation to more taliban attacks?
I don't see how, since the overwhelming majority of US drone strikes have targeted alleged Haqqani and Al Qaeda assets, and not the TTP.

If anything, the surge in attacks most likely points to the continued safe havens in Afghanistan and possible ISAF/ANA/NDS support for TTP elements sheltering in Eastern Afghanistan.

Given the increasing rhetoric about Baluchistan in the US media and Think Tank circles, along with the fact that the US sheltered a wanted terrorists and his associates in Kabul (Bugti), US/NDS support could also explain the spike in violence in Balochistan of late.

TTP & BLA are not two different entities, they have common logistic and planning support.

The acceptance of responsibility is entirely cosmetic and is to misguide the masses.

If Pakistan's nukes are threatened by the elements of TTP/BLA than they shall be targeted not some unknown civilians in the name of al-qaeeda.

Kill em all everyone of these cowardly bastards and send them straight to hell where they belong just kill em . RIP to the brave soilders of PAKISTAN may GOD bless PAKISTAN.

This is pretty much equivalent to a Tet Offensive where they inflict as much casualties as possible to get media attention even though they won't gain much in territory.
