Pakistan's Loss: A Disaster or a Blessing

.
From IMF to Pricewater house to world bank prediction and study had made until 2050 never put Bangladesh gdp total or nominal in US dollar value over Indonesia so yeah, we will stay ahead of you and still being Major economy player and party of G20 and Bangladesh is not.

The less they prove out there, the more they gotta project in here.

Don't need to fight it too hard....there are better things to do.

Like laugh at walton delaying a measly 1 billion export target by 10 years....and just move on

Says a lot about RMG sop reliance (just like the BD exports decreasing to the US after US withdrew GSP for them). This is the "competitiveness" of BD, just like their 50s era per capita energy consumption....and how they do economically anywhere they move to.

I was willing to give them credit earlier in this old thread given they had not yet reared their silliness to such degree here.....but now its obvious that whole country has a severe credibility issue the more you dig into it.

I kid you not, they have managed to invest 362 million in FDI outside their borders so far compared to Indonesia 66 billion USD (as of 2017).....they basically don't even know economics 101 or the importance of economy diversification to analyse even a tiny amount of this....just crave the autocracy for autocracy sake.....and follow that lot's spiel blindly (instead of actually researching if any BD companies actually past muster to try break a mold or two of RMG zero tariff gridlock dependence).

They are stuck like little moths dancing around a bright flame.

.
Says the mud hut dweller.

now in reality we in Pakistan actually laugh at mud huts

Man, this must be so embarrassing for you, but like Indians, I have a feeling you don't have much shame to begin with.

Pakistan’s poverty is 39%. Bangladesh’s 24%.

With what? Big mouth?
With facts and figures. You lot has big mouth not the other way around. On per capita gdp nominal wise you are still 6th on South Asia just ahead of Nepal and Afghanistan. You should be very proud of it.

.
. .
what is this clown mean? Since when Indonesia is in South Asia?

Can you read English? Where did you find Indonesia? Out of 8 south Asian nation your position is 6th on per capita gdp nominal basis just above Nepal and Afghanistan. Is it very hard for you to swallow? You should know your place before bragging.

Indonesia is SOUTH EAST ASIA. NOT South Asia. Different regions.

.
Ohh I see what you meant. You are Indonesian. Than take that just as info your Pak brother is now at 6th position in South Asia. What a big achievement it is to celebrate.

I am using cell phone. Can not see any flag. That was meant for Pakistan.

Pakistan isn't really South Asia in the TRUE sense of the region. We are at the merge point of the Middle East/Central Asia. Right next door to Iran.

.
The old Pakistan was an artificial entity that had outlasted it's usefulness well before 1971.

The only tragic thing about the separation was that it was not peaceful.

While Pakistan is a tribal culture, BD is a unitary state where the state comes before anything else.

Current BD GDP/capita growth of 6% per annum when compared to 3% for Pakistan should tell everyone how much better off BD is without having Pakistan.

Your minimum wage is 63 USD dollars per month ours is 150 dollars per month. We went through full blown insurgency while you had peace, so you comparison of oranges and apples doesn't hold ground.

Not sure which standered are you comparing with, but please do share with us all the fields you are ahead of Pakistan?

Dude even Afghanistan is in South Asia. Stop remaining in delusion that you are central Asian, Iranian, Turks or Arabs as nobody welcomes you.

If a crow put some feather of peacock it does not make him peacock. You are south Asian and be happy with it.

But point is in South Asia your country ranked 6th if the comparison is done central Asian your country would come last excluding Afghanistan as it is a South Asian country.

Copy pasting message 208..

The average PDF Pakistani gets his/her feathers ruffled when someone mentions the states of economy of both countries. But one has to ask why this difference? This did not happen in one day. Let's look at the statistics. I will highlight some of the critical ones that are stark and outliers...

Minimum wage in BD for garments sector is now 95 US dollars - it was raised last year.
Anyway richer countries do sometimes have lower minimum wages than poorer countries.

Insurgency? Pakistan is an independent country in charge of it's own destiny.

Hey Butt-hurt,
Have you not heard that Walton has just started exports of TVs to Germany?

Have you not heard that Walton has just started exports of TVs to Germany?

I've been hearing Walton "started exporting" something since forever. What was it refrigerators to Thailand in 2015? Mobile phones to India in 2016? Motorbikes to Nepal in 2017?

I guess no repeat orders because everyone figures out its made in china scam in the end . I mean where is the sustained ACTUAL exports in the years AFTER starting a little trial of 1000 units (that likely accumulate dust in some warehouse afterwards?...coz ppl figure out its junk)

Theres a reason your economic complexity and realised numbers (lets face it, years have passed already...plenty of time to build up some trend in 2017 if it exists) stays stuck:

https://atlas.media.mit.edu/en/visualize/tree_map/hs92/export/bgd/all/show/2015/

https://atlas.media.mit.edu/en/profile/country/bgd/

So lets see for 2015:

BD RMG ratio = 32.3/35.7 = 90.5%

NON-RMG exports = 3.4 billion USD

For 2017:

BD RMG ratio = 35.8/39.2 = 91.3% (and actual increase on reliance on RMG)

NON-RMG exports = 3.4 billion USD (stagnant...there's after all a reason Walton delayed an already tiny export target by 10 years lol)

Of those tiny NON-RMG exports, the electronics/maunfacture/MVA stuff blah blah blah (promised since 2015 and before) is....zilch and their growth is next to zilch. Can easily explore OEC as much you want to. Wanna bet how its gonna be in 2020?

In fact what happens when a large rich country removes zero-tariff access to BD? (just a tiny touch too):

Yep you guessed it:

BD exports to USA (from comtrade):

2015 = 6.2 billion USD

2016 = 6.1 billion USD

2017 = 5.9 billion USD

Yep super reliant expansionary trend there!...esp when just the slightest level playing field crops back in!

So everyone ought to be cautious before they go all in on the BD miracle blah blah nonsense.... I can post BD energy consumption next, it will shock ppl here that respond to this post....and completely verifies why BD "growth" is largely inflation based (and the bow will break badly the longer it goes on, like it already has done with real household income decline)....and why Harvard projects 4% long term (actual diverse) growth only.

Walton distributes 4,500 types and models of electric, electronic, and automotive goods that it imports, assembles, or manufactures.[1] As of 2017 handsets it assembles in China had captured 5% of the mobile phone market in Bangladesh.[5] In 2015, it manufactured 80% of the refrigerators, 30% of the televisions, and 6% of the motorcycles sold in Bangladesh.[6][7] It also has the capacity to manufacture 300,000 air conditioners a year.[7]

ouch

I've talked to someone who knows ppl that work at Walton at upper level. The whole thing is basically a front group to get some "we're helping some third worlders hurdehurrr" initially (in some market of X Y Z).....and then the Chinese come up behind them to get the real body of the sustained exports later (that they couldn't as easily otherwise since China is basically not so 3rd world anymore...so the feelz arent quite there anymore among gullible whitey).

It's a clever model, for the Chinese that is (and why they commit maybe 10% MVA value to anything they invest in BD to begin with)....they have a few notable ppl controlling things in Walton....its the typical skirmisher followed by phalanx model. Skirmishers are expendable (and just reconnoiter and commit a little and get a little at most), phalanxes do the job and hold territory and settle scores....but the villages/peons providing the skirmishers really can't be choosy since they come from zilch....and have no bargaining power/capability of their own.

This is also why the initial hurdehur target, that gets delayed by 10 years......and then the export levels of non-RMG dont actually change in any noticeable amount....and neither does Walton release a standard FY revenue release (forget profitability analysis etc)....for god knows since I joined the forum at least I think (maybe more).

Neither do service exports, pharma or any of the other goodie bags promised here each week, of each month of each year.

Really just sit back and watch, the only constant in this subforum are 1971 waaah threads and "we're starting to export *insert hurdeeehurr*" threads. Oh and bitching that BD ppl go to India for the most basic of basic things (that one would think a superpower STRONK exporter could provide easily). Draining the money y...Its all just bollywood imaginationzzz.

Then when you call them out on the ACTUAL numbers and performance.....and maybe theres issue with all this talk of 3 million and genocide blah blah.....they yell WAISSSIST and BUTTHURT!

Really they are quite the spectacle living in their little cocoon.
