Featured Pakistani Navy confirms Brazilian jetliner will replace Orion patrol aircraft

Is there more info on who will convert the Sea Sultan into a maritime patrol aircraft?

Sir, it is the other way around, 3 engines are turned off. 1 remains active.

*Edit: 3 engines can be turned of, weather permitting.
The Kiwis set a record of 21+hrs on patrol. I think.
I think 2 can be turned off if the elements permit it so, turning off 3 engines is quite dangerous no? Though usually it is only 1 engine off.

No, not yet, however its beyond likely the contract will go to RAS with potentially some Pakistani integration work on a smaller scale due to it being a reasonably large quantity of aircraft.

The problem is RAS cannot do the work at their own location, as the runway is only 1200 meters long. Enough for the RAS-72, not enough for the Sea Sultan

They could do it at another location, for example in Pakistan while still being the primary contractor for the work, they would handle airframe modifications, integration, testing etc, all in Pakistan.

Have been saying the same. Others keep saying RAS can’t do anything other than ATR-72s and that the work will go out to some US company, but that’s so unlikely considering the recent trend of buying nothing at all from the USA. Besides, If the same company does it, it’s much easier to tie things together, not to mention A company such as RAS would deliver even if it’s a first time project.

Pakistan must move away from USA altogether. They are in bed with India and always punish us with sanctions.

RAS literally offers jet conversions, ppl just like to talk out of their backside.

The RAS-72 is a project from RAS and Aerodata, where RAS is the company selected because of them being a ATR maintenance company.
So it could well be that Aerodata selects another company with more Embraer experience to do the conversion for them.

AFAIK, its probably split something like this, Aerodata providing the systems with RAS integrating and modifying airframes to suit them. RAS does MRO for numerous aircraft types, alongside this, the MPA conversion is available on numerous platforms, including ones selected by the customer

Partially true. RAS does it for the ATR’s (Nigerian maintenance and Pakistani conversion). Aerodata does it at their location in Braunschweig on Beech 200/350 series, M28’s and Let L410 so far. Bigger platforms haven’t been done so far.

Sea Sultan is very unique, daring and I would say a high risk program. PN took this approach partly due to limited options available to it. When Indians purchased the P8s they paid for a turn key project, the aircraft, the systems, maintenance, training, manuals, basically the whole works. Although the platform and the systems for Sea Sultan are off the shelf but integrating all these elements together in an effective manner is still a massive undertaking. A number of countries have done it with smaller aircrafts like ATR or CASA but not with big jets. Further operating a fleet of 10 jets of the size of the Embraer is almost like running a small airline. The program should followed closely and I wish PN all the success in this endeavor. If successful, it will give Pakistan some unique capabilities. Nothing wrong with leveraging services of foreign companies like RAS, but this project is big enough for such companies to set up shop in Pakistan. Maybe a partnership with the new MRO facility being set up by PAC at the new Islamabad airport.

Its not really high risk though is it, you're taking proven mission systems designed to be integrated in existing platforms with minimal modification. High risk would be a fresh development. These systems are designed to be integrated with minimal risk, cost and effort. In terms of size, the 1000E is marginally larger than the P3 its replacing.

Look at it in the context that PN has initiated a project which can be a direct competitor to the only equivalent platform in the world I.e. the P8 from the USA.
