Pakistani Missile Vehicles Vs Indian and NKearn

Chinese first generation TEL(4-axel), WS2400 8*8, was first appeared as the vehicle of DF-11 in 1997

DF-15 's TAS5450 also use the same 8*8 technology

Before 2009, China did not have the technology to make 4-axle artillery trucks, so semi trailer tractors were used for various of Chinese missiles. The vehicles maybe modified to add more weight bearing wheels but there are only eight driving wheels as they are still 4-axle trucks.

China's first 5-axle WS2500 10*10 is first seen as the TEL for DF-21C in 2009.

DF-41 uses HTF5980 16*16 8-axle TEL, similar to the Russian RS-12(SS-25) TEL

There is an error about SH-3 TEL model at the beginning post on this thread needed to be corrected. The SH-3 TEL is the WS-21200 16*16 whole wheel drive, not the WS-51200 12*16 12-wheel drive that North Korean purchased supposedly for transporting timber logs.

For the WS21200 Pakistan used, all the outer end of the axle of the eight wheels are convex, thus they are driving wheels.

Whereas for the WS-51520 North Korean used, on wheel no.4 and no.7, the shape are concave, they are weight bearing wheels. So in terms of off-road mobility, the former is much better than the latter one. After all the WS-51200 is for civil use and available to purchase at about U$4 million per vehicle.

Actually the using of certain type of TEL may indicate what type of capability of the ballistic missile that particular TEL carries. TEL of 16*16 is for inter-continental ballistic missiles and are very expensive. Although Pakistan bought two WS-21200 at a special price of U$1 million each few months ago, they are still quite expensive. So I don't think Pakistan bought them just for feeling good and for show purpose. It may tell us some information about the Sh-3 and its future series which are still classified, e.g. range, weight etc.

In the case of North Korean Taepodong-2 ballistic missile, it weighs 80 t and has a range of 4000-6000 km. If North Korea chose to pass a message to the US by demonstrating this missile on the WS-51200 TEL on its national parade, perhaps there is reason to believe that Sh-3 has a longer range than people previously thought.

Missiles need to be canisterized to be able to cold-launch.
