What's new

Pakistani Forces against Militants.

If this guy is a most wanted man and involve in killing and terrorizing people in Pakistan, why the Pakistanis don't discuss with the US and go hunting together?
I also thought that the new process will allow for joint terrorist hunting or would give Pakistan to follow people into Afghanistan if they attacked inside Pakistan and tried to hide across the border?
Why don't they mien the damn border. That's do-able. Let these killers die try to cross into either side!!

So if a guy is wanted by CIA it sends drones , fires 2 hell fire missiles 10 people die .. later found all were innocent men women and children . But if we want a terrorist we go joint terrorist hunting ? This isnt fair sir. CIA should use the same drone inside AFG to kill these terrorists .. fair enough ?

Helicopters pound militant hideouts in Khyber; 10 killed

At least ten suspected militants were killed and six others injured Monday when Pakistani gunship helicopters pounded suspected militant hideouts in Bara Tehsil of Pakistan’s restive Khyber tribal region, officials said.
The assault followed an earlier clash in the Akakhel area of Bara Tehsil which had left one soldier dead and three injured, the officials added.
According to the officials, armed militants ambushed a security convoy leading to a deadly clash between the militants and security forces. The clash resulted in the death of a soldier while three others were wounded.
Following the clash, security forces assisted by gunship helicopters targeted militant hideouts in Akakhel area, killing ten militants and injuring six others, the official sources said.
Officials said security forces also destroyed four militant bases and claimed to have arrested 15 suspects as the offensive continued.
Meanwhile, another soldier was also killed in a road side bomb explosion in Tehsil Bara’s Shalobar area during a search operation, the officials added.
The reports could not be independently verified as journalists have limited access to Pakistan’s remote tribal areas.
Khyber is among Pakistan’s seven tribal districts near the Afghan border which are rife with homegrown insurgents and are alleged to be strongholds of Taliban and Al Qaeda operatives.

Isnt it possible that just like drones, these gunship attacks also cause civilian deaths ??? Has the area been sealed off to the the journalist to prevent that kind of news coming out ?

intelligence is foolproof on such targets as compared to one targeted by drones which are generally random targets.Drone trageting is more like collective punishment on thw whole society.

Am not too sure about it.. If this was as foolproof, independent journalists would have been allowed in the area..

Collateral damage even in these raids, happens. that's what he is saying. Nothing wrong in exploring how much collateral damage is there ? It will be less but NIL, don't think so. Even Pakistani members will agree on this too.

ok -- first and foremost:

when it says "officials" it usually means political agents or local/tehsil admin and they are briefed very regularly by the fauj

foreign journalists are not allowed, for their own safety but MORE importantly for the safety of OUR troops (which the media often compromises)

our gunships are used when it is warranted and when they are asked to be called in for aerial support (like what ANY army does)......and unlike what 'allies' do in Afghanistan and elsewhere (i.e. bombing funerals and what not) that is not our M.O.

hope that answered your cynical question

But since those areas are Militant strongholds, not only independent journalists but also Pakistani Army does not have a free access to the area. Hence would be impossible to ascertain if the ones killed were militants of civilians.. Also the news release from PA also seems to be leaving that option open with the claim of suspected militants

Yes it can happen. However most of the strikes carried out by gunships would be CAS for soldiers on the ground or based on solid intel.

But why is there never a news article about collateral damage from these raids.. ? Are those hushed up or prevented from coming out?

and about solid intel, well, the operation Geronimo showed all the US's intel is not any less solid ...

PESHAWAR: Two civilians and eight militants were killed and 11 others were injured in bombardment by fighter jets in the Khyber tribal region, DawnNews reported on Thursday.

The jets struck areas in Khyber’s Zawa region destroying four insurgent hideouts, security sources said.

The 11 injured in the onslaught included four civilians and seven militants.

Two houses in the vicinity were also damaged in the action.

Khyber is among Pakistan’s seven tribal districts near the Afghan border which are rife with homegrown insurgents and are alleged to be strongholds of Taliban and Al Qaeda operatives.

Militants have killed more than 4,800 people across Pakistan since July 2007.

Thanks.. But the clamor against collateral damage in these cases seems almost negligible.. Is it because its the national army that is causing this damage vis-a-vis a foreign country ?

We have physical intelligence available in abundance in N.Wazirstan. Army does try to reduce, collateral damage, ie not attacking villages or populated areas where militants hide which is one reason that NWA operation is not being started because we would have to displace millions of civilians. This, is the irony of COIN ops, Icarus will be able to explain it in detail.

The targets are not probable kills. They are confirmed by intelligence workers in the region including locals and scouts, and then the coordinates sent for aerial attack. The precise bombings allow minimal damage to civilian property, as the militant hideouts and training camps generally not situated near any public presence. If happens otherwise, there would be no aerial attack in the middle of civilian presence and other means would be practiced.

Now please, your dilemma has been cleared. This thread is intended to be a diary of Security Forces against Militancy and has over 500 confirmed deaths to militants since post 1. This thread is to prove that security forces are actively working to demolish militancy in the region, unlike what the foreign media propagates.

And cb4, please post the pictures in other thread.
