I watched the match from the start to the finish. A disappointing end to the well fought match. Current Australian ODI team is well-balanced and in the ODI series played in the UAE a couple of months back, Australia crushed Pakistan 5 to Nil. On this basis, the result of the match was not unexpected.
The ground reality is that we have no world class batsman or match winning bowler in the Pakistan squad. After the loss to Afghanistan followed by the crushing defeat by West Indies, chances of this team making the last 4 have diminished.
Pakistani batting has always been fragile. I happened to watch the 199 World cup final at Lords, where the team which included Saeed Anwar, Inzamam, Shahid Afridi, Abdur Razzaq, Waseem Akram, and Shoaib Akhtar was out for a paltry 132. The inconsistency in the performance appears to be ingrained in the blood. This time the at least the team did not fold as they did against the West Indies; I would therefore not shed too many tears and accept the loss with good grace.
The only player that IMO deserves a slap on the wrist is Asif Ali. After dropping David Warner & Aaron Finch, he could only manage 5 runs with the bat! Certainly not worth a place in the squad.
