Featured Pakistan Ulema Council announces support for construction of temple

People should not be making a comparison between government funds allocated for historical buildings vs those allocated for new construction.

Badshahi mosque and Kartarpur and many ancient Hindu & Buddhist sites are historical sites and therefore their maintenance, renovation and upkeep should be handled by the government.

A better comparison could be made to the Faisal Mosque which was a government funded project from the start.

less than 2%. Why should 98% pay? I am not saying either for or against - just asking your opinion.

If in 7 decades govt spent something for Hindu community as a positive gesture and harmony it should not hurt any extremist individual. Besides many Muslims like me who don't hate them or their places of worship just because of their faith.

And to clear it up yet again, I'm don't support govt wasting cash on such endeavors. Pakistan is a very poor country. We have far far more important things. I'm sure no community will cry if repay loans with this money.

Why would they be permitted to? This is a spurious claim.

Why would they not?

It is for economic activity after all.

Why would government politicise temple building? What good can it bring if it cannot sort out the Auqaaf department?

Some people on social media are politicizing it not government. Ab government na ulema ki opinion mangi thi unhon na kaha ha hakomat funds da skti ha bas itni si baat ha. And yeh project hindu MNAs ki demand par shuru hua tha and Hindus na funds ki request bhi ki thi

government politicized it by funding lavish temples in midst of austerity

Plenty of governments ban foreign funding on places of worship. This is called "regulation"; governments do this. If Islamabad is not doing so, they should immediately ban any non-Pakistani contributions to this building.

Faisal Mosque was built by funnding of Suadi King. None of the mosques in Pakistan are funded by Pakistani Goverment.

Thank you for the clarification.

As I have said before repeatedly, the government should not be involved in the construction, maintenance or restoration of religious places of worship, Muslim or non-Muslim, unless they are historical sites.

The government needs to approach this issue from a legal perspective and make sure it isn't setting a precedent for other Muslim or non-Muslim groups to then demand government funding for religious places of worship.

Tax payer money has better uses.

I'm sure that if the foundation/association constructing the temple were to open an account for donations, plenty of Muslims and non-Muslims would donate to cover a good chunk of the cost of construction.

Why to this building alone one may ask?

I'm actually shocked Pakistan has not thought of this already. Surely all significant places of worship should have their funding trails checked and regulated? Maybe Pakistan already does this - I really don't know. I'm not suggesting blanket ban foreign funding - just vet it strictly, and certainly ban any funding from India or any global organisations with hindutva links, as these are existential threats to Pakistan.

What do you think people mean when they say audit the Auqaaf department?
