The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress today of a possible Foreign Military Sale to Pakistan for a C-130 Fleet Upgrade Program for an estimated cost of $100 million.

The upgrade will allow continued operation of the Pakistan’s Air Force C-130 fleet (five C-130B and eleven C-130E models) for counter-insurgency/counter-terrorism flights; regional humanitarian operations; troop transport; and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions within Pakistan and in the region, according to the statement.

Its good news for Pakistan an Upgrade will enhance its capabilities and a new life to aging fleet

Hmm, no upgrade to AC130 ?

It would be a great asset against ground targets.
Slow stable flight, and massive firepower.

US is mostly grants us the things of their own interest mean which we can use against Taliban only not hi-tech for country defence and they claim we are their FRONT LINE ALLIES....

PAF is already short of C-130s committing them to AC-130 version will not be a good idea, instead PA / PAF can ask for retiring A-10s which will be retired due to defense budget cuts.

Brother US Congress will never allow them to provide A-10 to Pakistan and Pentagon will also not move any of this idea.

You may be right, but Govt. could try.

Yes we can try because this time Ambassador to USA is Establishment backed person and selected by suggestion of Army not like Hussain Haqqani and they can negotiate with them....The Strategic Dialogue which were held last month were successful because of these diplomats and US agreed to provide their used military equipment in Afghanistan, to Pakistan

because US will pay for this upgrading and we are not investing
Then they will use it as well for monitoring...

If they are paying then PAF should look towards getting more from KSA, UAE, Oman and Jordan. Make a Fleet of 30-41 of these...

Why not invest in new 21 Y-9 from China....

Why? when you have complete C-130 infrastructure for the last 50 years. Those 17-18 C-130s are more than enough for the next 15-20 Years max.

Hopefully yours dreams can come true in next 10-15 years when economy greatly improves perhaps you might see something better than Y-9 and Y-20 but personally most people here would like to see better variant of C-130J when price comes down and is affordable the platform has always suited Pakistan.
