I watched this excellent video about how Pakistan negotiated with U.S sometime back.The main author is Terressa .A lot of what she said reflects in what OP posted.

I guess that depends on what walking away means here.
If it means downgrading relationship from allies to cordial...then not much will change.
If it means something more drastic....then it is a whole another story

Whether anyone walks away or not, one thing is certain. We can expect a very ugly and hostile relation between the US and Pakistan under Trump. Trump is now under the rule of generals. The anti-war brigade such as Steve Bannon have all left the building. Trump won't fulfil his anti-war and America first pledge. He lied and all his cronies are now hiding.

But, the generals are clever folks!!! And, they know their limitaions best!!! Who knows they may offer the best deal to Pak for they know the Pindi boys' resumes!!! IMO they will go for a very very grand bargain, and are preparing the ground for this!!! I am pretty sure Pindi boys know it too well and taking the stakes to a level hitherto unknown, especially after the Hindi boys have shown their mettle!!! It's all now "boys" vs "boys" for no "states"men (buck stops here - type) are around!!!!!

The message to US is very clear: Islamabad is willing to co-operate on the Afghan issue but on its own terms and without the threatening statements/diplomatic coercion from the States. Guess, certain policy makers overestimated the American leverage on Pakistan which is clearly insufficient. The US is free to choose its own course and fight the war in Afghanistan without the GOP's assistance. The respective embassies aren't being closed nor are the diplomatic relations being severed, relax and don't see more than there really is.

Try using that brain of yours. The problem doesn't want to be fixed by them. They want it to spill over to Pakistan as a pretext to gain control of our nuclear weapons. Gen. Kiyani had already said it long ago; he knew what the invasion of Afghanistan was for.

Need hard reset of ties. Pakistan needs to walk away from US war in Afghanistan.

Why the hell havn't you built the border fencing on Afghanistan yet? I have been barking on here for years about this. If work had started in 2011 it would have been finished by now and could have walked away from this useless war.

Secure the border areas and let the US deal with the mess itself. Pakistan should help US find an alternative to supply lines and formally withdraw from this war. Only be involved at a political level with Kabul to resolve this war.

Musharraf total fool made a decision to join Bush on his own in a locked room. Still paying for the decision.
