PAKISTAN TO SPEND $12 BILLION ON ARMS IN 2016-2024

$5.6 billion is a lot of amount and i don't see that much spending because there is not a single news of defense procurement except for used f-16s from jordan
you will heard them in coming days and weeks..

there is also news of either Su-35 or EFT to be procured by PAF in those 8 years..

. .
USD 12 billion over a period of eight years is just peanuts. Pakistan needs around USD 50 billion only for acquisitions in next 8 yrs.

$12 billion over eight-years is nothing, especially compared to what China and India will spend in the same time frame.

We would spend that is enough to defend us. After we are not a warmongering jingoistic society. I would always prefer Pakistan building a more welfare society helping and supporting its poor than spending billions on some imaginary threats.

Most of this 12 billion should go to the navy and the air force. There is no need for an new type of expensive tank. Air and naval power wins wars and tanks are going to be sitting duck in future warfare. Instead of keeping a bloated army. PA should move towards more specialized warfare with smaller highly mobile teams able to inflict massive damage on a slow moving enemy tanks. The U.S army is moving in that direction as it is evident from the fact that the U.S army hasn't fielded a new tank in the past 25 years. They are simply upgrading the existing abrams and adding more special forces units.
Pakistan will never be able to compete with india if it wants to fight the same way indians fight, we have to be wise where we spend these limited funds.

Pakistan's military budget is very less as compared to other countries such as India, China, etc, so we should not be worried about more budget for armed forces rather we should support more funds, because Armed forces are for our protection in growing challenges,
If someone is concerned about economy of the country then he should exert efforts on bringing back the money looted by corrupt politicians and kept in Swiss banks and Offshore accounts first, after that talk about reducing army budget,

Well spending $12 bn over the span of 8 years that is nothing new or fancy we have already made deal for 8 subs we have decided to upgrade our agostas and possibly are in talks for Milgem class with Turkey. There goes a big chunk out of that $12 bn.

Infact what I think is Pakistan must work seriously on economy and double that amount. Most of the procurements must be made e via TOT and local manufacturing which would mean it would create jobs for locals.

Don't take it as a wishlist as most of it is already in our plan. But following is what I think must be done in coming 8 years:

PAF:
  1. Speed up the JFT program and finish off with block 3, which must have AESA, IRST and new more potent weapons integrated (preferably something local like Ra'ad). Replace the aging Mirages ASAP.
  2. Join TFX as it would bring tonnes of new knowledge keeping in mind how JFT has worked for us.
  3. Bring Russia and China on the table and discuss the procurement of Chinese Flankers, irrespective of whether we buy Su-35 or not. Platforms like J-16 and J-11D are comparable to F-15 silent eagle andF/A-18 growler and are very much needed even if move on towards 5th gen. Today even USA is thinking of using Growler's jamming capabilities in combination with JSF's stealth.
  4. Invest in SAMs
PA:
  1. Procure APCs and give our soldiers the much needed protection that at times Hilux fails to provide.
  2. Add as much teeth to Al-Khalid as possible int erms of TOT of subsystems.
PN:
PN is the weakest link and therefore needs the most attention
  1. Induction of 8 Chinese subs
  2. Naval variant of babur (SLCM)
  3. Upgrade of Agostas
  4. Development of new naval air arm (ideal if we can get J-11D or J-16).
  5. Get the Ada Class from Turkey.
  6. Increase the numbers of Fast Attack Crafts form 12.
