Pakistan to raise 12,000 Marines in a new branch of Navy

If you start connecting the dots this is part of the Pakistan's Military's longer-term plans for an expeditionary force focused primarily on the Middle East specifically Saudi Arabia and the Holy sites. The number of training battalions at the Pakistan Military Academy has been increased from 3 to 4 so the pipeline for officers has already been geared up. Very soon you will start hearing about hardware to support this expansion. The Saudi are fully onboard and paying for it. Pakistani troops are already in Saudi Arabia. The Yemen issue was just a minor irritant as the Pakistani did not agree with the strategy and they will be proven right very soon. Pakistani involvement in the middle east needs longer-term planning and this is all about that.

Yes indeed the training has been increased it is to add to what Pakistan has lost along with 1 each for Afghan border and Iran Border. one special for Chinese protection. This is 4 training battalions.

Are you saying that the PMA battalions are specific to Afghan and Iran borders and for Chinese protection? If yes, that is the stupidest thing I have heard in a long time and it shows you have no idea about how the officer corp is trained and deployed in Pakistan Army.

All I'm trying to say is the current war and internal situation of Pakistan requires Pakistan Armed Forces to expand. Pakistan Army now faces enemy on two fronts rather then one front. I hope you would understand

By the time, the 4th battalion starts producing officers the operations in the West will be effectively completed. The number of troops stationed in cantonments in the West will not increase significantly. Anyway Marines are not needed in those areas.

Many questions remain unanswered. All we know so far is that it will be headed by a 3 star Admiral.

What will be the purpose of such force?
Why the sudden need for Marines?
Where will they operate? Are they meant to guard Gwadar?
What equipment will they have? Is Pakistan finally getting Amphibious assault ships which are considered vital for any amphibious military to effectively operate?

I personally think expanding the Pak Marines to division strength was never on the cards and the media as usual got it wrong. I think the '12000 Marines' are actually in reference to the Navy reorganising several LEAs/paramilitary units under the command of the MSA.

This news is correct. They will focus more on amphibious capabilities esp for the Creek and kutch areas. At the moment there are no plans that l am aware of for inducting assault helos.

Mr we are already raising this news was brought out after we already would have raised at least one third of this force and numbers will keep increasing until it reaches 12000.

Bloody waste of money. What is the point of Marines? What seaborne attack are we contemplating? Attacking Oman? Or securing the sea?

First please, please please can we secure Karachi and FATA then we can think of the sea.

That's not bloody waste of money, that's the need of time. How you come to conclusion that we are going to attack Oman and how you are too confident over the safety of sea border? Do you lost sense of analysis?
