Pakistan to employ anti-terror strategies of other states!

Mehran Base, GHQ, Peshawar Church and School attacks and many other similar terrorist attacks have made one thing crystal clear. You can't sit back and defend these installations like this, you just cannot be defensive in this war. We need to take the war to their door steps and make their lives hell. We need to be more offensive in this war in order to win it.

And yes, we desperately need a well trained and equipped Quick Response Force to deal with such attacks.

You're right. We liberals only parrot our master's words. While our right-wing/conservative/religious parrots prefer to follow their masters by strapping bombs to themselves and blowing up in the middle of school children. Damn those liberals, how dare they use verbal arguments to convince someone else.
It is not the verbal arguments that bother us but rather the hollowness of their message...the lack of thought behind sweeping statements, the flattery of false ideals, the baseness of the philosophy behind the message, and the denial of our heritage, religion and dignity.
Liberal is just another word for people who are too lazy to actually ponder on a situation and to conduct careful research...so they just go with the "coolest" sounding idea that happens to tickle their fancy.

Spot on! But as long as there exist the 'good' terrorists and the 'bad' terrorists, you can have the best trained and equipped force in the world but it would be of no use to man or beast. It's like trying to hold water in a sieve.

Bottom line:
Pakistan can learn and adopt the best counter insurgency tactics of other countries but nothing will change as long as the 'good' terrorists remain part of Pakistani military doctrine of using them as 'strategic assets' and as a first line of defence against India. Thus, at most it would be just a halfhearted attempt to counter terrorism in Pakistan. It won't work and the sooner the PTB realise this the better.

Good terr and bad terr policy was implemented by the most successful counter insurgency scenarios in Rhodesia and SA to great effect. Your argument is invalid.

This said they would do this a year ago but did nothing.

Where is budget and where are tangibles? There is nothing on ground. This is all talk.

ANd the good folk like yourself and your fellows prefer instead to behead people, throw acid on women, shoot children in the face. Deny the right of every man to a free life in security. You're right, we are too lazy. We should learn from you righteous folks and go out and blow someone up. We go with the coolest ideas, you guys go with the most outrageous conspiracy thought up by idiots like Zaid Hamid etc.

It seems you have not read my post. Are you illiterate as well as stupid ? I am done with this...there are certain levels I will not stoop to.

.
No we do not have all the answers...that is why we need to develop solutions. Innovation does not take place in a society that has all the answers...innovation is the hallmark of societies that seek answers. And yes Pakistan is capable of innovation of the like which the world has not seen yet. But then again I am a terrible optimist :)

What kind of innovation are you talking about, religious bigot?

Sri Lanka tops list; different studies and expert opinions also under consideration. STOCK IMAGE

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will take a leaf out of other countries’ experiences in combating terrorism and countering violent extremism trends — with Sri Lanka and Malaysia on top of the list, The Express Tribune has learnt.

A security official said that currently, in countering violent extremism, successful de-radicalisation programmes of Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Indonesia, Algeria and the United Kingdom will be followed. For counter terrorism strategy, Sri Lanka, Algeria, United Kingdom and Turkey would be given preference, sources in the interior ministry confirmed.

The differences in their models are being studied to make them relevant with the present national action plan to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the country. Different research studies and experts’ input are also under consideration for the purpose.

Federal Secretary Interior Shahid Khan confirmed these plans and said these models were brought under consideration first during the formulation of the National Internal Security Policy 2013-18 with three major elements: dialogue with all stakeholders, isolating terrorists from their support bases, and enhancing deterrence through capacity-building, so that the security apparatus could deal with internal security threats.

Under the counter terrorism model suggested by expert groups recently, “a modern, well-equipped and better trained police force is the best line of defence in combating terrorism in recent times.”

There is a growing trend in police services of many police officials obtaining leave for studies in foreign universities in irrelevant disciplines. It was also suggested that focus be given to training local police officers in countries with better experience of fighting terrorist groups so that they might come back with skills that can be utilised.

A recently published bi-annual research journal of Pak Institute of Pakistan Studies namely Conflict and Peace Studies endorsed this approach as well. In his comment entitled “Understanding the fundamentals of a counterterrorism strategy for Pakistan”, researcher and former police officer Dr Farhan Zahid, who has authored more than 10 papers on terrorism, counter-terrorism, Afghan political order and al Qaeda, noted that there is a need to establish a counter-terrorism policy institute at the state level for studying the causes and reasons of terrorism using a wider perspective.

Commenting on other countries’ successful models, he stressed that detained terrorists be treated in a just and fair manner showing resolve for the rule of law and integrity. “This will require consistent legislative effort to upgrade anti-terror laws on need-to-need basis, (so that) no extra-judicial measure should be allowed to take root,” he added. The national action plan is supposed to deal with issues like madrassa reforms, counter-terrorism and extremism, oversee activities of banned outfits and slapping a ban on hate literature.

Finally some commonsense is displayed from our dumb so-called leaders. It comes as no surprise that a ban on hate literature was also slapped in 1953 during anti-Qadiani riots by our military establishment and those Islamic terrorists responsible were jailed while their leaders sentenced to death. Yet these hardly needed death sentences against Islamic terrorists were never carried out even to this day. Look at India or Israel, if you really want to fight plague of Islamic terrorism and extremism from Saudi satellite state al-Bakistan!

Your point was absolutely fine and was going to be welcomed, but you used India and Israel and also added Iran later..You shouldnt have done that!

So you suggest India and Israel are not good at countering Islamic terrorism?

They are good at countering any terrorism, but you have now hurt some sentiments of the likes of Ziad Hamids, visible from the facts in this very thread. I would have been the happiest if Pakistan can take a cue from Indians as we would be happy to help.

Detachment 88 was formed after the 2002 Bali bombings[4] and became operational in 2003.[5] The name of the organization is a result of a senior Indonesian police official mishearing "ATA" in a briefing on the US Department of State's Anti-Terrorist Assistance program as "88".

Funniest thing I've heard today! :-) Wonder if the guy had ever watched "Kill Bill".

Some of the best unit names/nicknames come from things like this. The B-1 Lancer got a much cooler unofficial nickname due to secretaries messing up the program name. One had it "B-1". Another decided that all numbers should be spelled out and changed it to "B-ONE". A third decided that the dash was a typo and removed it - voila, the B-1 became the Bone. Damn cool! and funny...
