Pakistan: ties with Iran cordial, to be consolidated
Islamabad, Feb 10, IRNA – Pakistan foreign ministry spokesperson described Islamabad-Tehran relations as cordial and diverse which will be consolidated in times to come.
At his weekly news briefing in Islamabad, Nafees Zakaria said, 'According to Prime Minister's vision of peaceful neighborhood and shared prosperity, we remain committed to consolidate these relations.'
To a question regarding upcoming Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit in Islamabad (March 01)he said that most of the countries have confirmed their participation in ECO summit to be held on 1st of next month. 'connectivity for prosperity' is the main theme of the summit, he added.
ECO is a ten member regional organization, which includes Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Nafees Zakaria to a question said a six-party meeting on Afghanistan will be held in Moscow in February. 'Pakistan has been invited to the meeting and it would likely to attend.'
Nafees Zakaria said evolving situation in Afghanistan will be reviewed at upcoming Moscow meeting. He said Pakistan is committed to peace and stability in Afghanistan and would sincerely cooperate towards this end.
Earlier, Russian state media had reported Russia, China, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan and India will meet in Moscow in mid-February on Afghanistan.
Replying to a question on a recent visit by Russian deputy energy minister to Islamabad, Nafees Zakaria said the Russian official was in Islamabad to discuss technical aspects and other related details of the two-billion-dollar North-South gas pipeline(from Karachi to Lahore).
Commenting on Pakistan-US ties, the spokesman said Pakistan has longstanding relations with the US and wants to further strengthen these ties. He said two sides are constantly in contact with each other.
