There was a rumour going on about Pakistan testing a 7000 km ICBM named Taimur or something. Anybody know what happened to that project? Will it be tested?
According to former DG SPD, Gen (R) Khalid Kidwai the 2750km Shaheen-3 is far as Pakistan would go. The missile addresses Pakistan's primary objective of covering India in its entirety, including its Andaman and Nicobar islands. There are no strategic or political compulsions that require Pakistan to develop a ballistic missile exceeding the 2750km-3000km range (Gen. Kidwai ruled out 3000km as well and insisted that Shaheen-3 is 2750km). Plus, building an ICBM would be a waste of resources that could instead be better utilised. For a single ICBM we could instead have two or more Shaheen-2 missiles that would efficiently serve the strategic needs of Pakistan. Additionally, Shaheen-3 is also able to reach Israel. So if any active threat spurs up from there we have a missile system to deter them.
