Quotes from the PSL Managing Director during a press conference earlier today.

We are negotiating with players from South Africa, England, West Indies, Sri Lanka, and Australia. These are major countries and we have received positive responses. Names will be announced as soon as we have a substantial number of players confirmed.

BCCI does not allow their players to visit Pakistan, but we are in contact with players from Bangladesh.

We are in discussions with big names including Chris Gayle and others. Our representative is in the West Indies to discuss the PSL with players there.

We are approaching top players from every country including Bangladesh. We have taken care of the security situation and are informing players about our security measures. They can come and see all oursecurity arrangements for the PSL.

We have no policy to ban any player from any country. Our policy is to allow any player who can come and play and benefit the PSL and Pakistan.

Bidding of players will be done in the last week of February. We have plans to do it after 24th of February.

We have 5 categories, 'Diamond', 'Platinum', 'Gold', 'Silver' and 'Emerging'. Both Pakistani and foreign players will be allocated in these categories. We are offering one of the best wages per match in comparison to other leagues.

This is a 100 million dollar tournament. Over a period of time, capacity will increase.

In emerging category we will give priority to young Pakistani players.

We have advertised broadcasting rights and we have had an overwhelming response. We have also had very good responses from franchises. There are 5 teams but we have more potential buyers.

By the end of February everything will be finalized.

We are thinking about giving our women’s team some exposure during this tournament.

This is really weird.

PSL can surely say Club-Karachi cannot spend more than xxxxxx dollars a year on player salaries.

But it should not impose any limits on individual player's salary. That should be left to the club owner.

May be I want to have 2 star players for $250K and bunch of middle and starting players for much less.

Seond point:

Why do we need foreign players if there are plenty of Pakistani players available.

Sure it will help to earn more money in TV rights from international TV,

But to start with, PSL should focus on filling stadiums with Pakistanis.

If stadiums are empty, what kind of TV royalties we can ask?

PCB announces auction slabs for PSL

The PCB has set base prices for five categories of players up for sale at the inaugural Pakistan Super League (PSL) auction scheduled for the last week of February. Players in the diamond category will have a starting price of $100,000, platinum $70,000, gold $50,000, silver $25,000 and the emerging category will be between $5000 and $10,000.

The Pakistan board is yet to reveal the pool of players available to the five franchises but is looking to finalise the names by February. The PCB didn't reveal the base prices for the five regional franchises either; the bidding process for the franchises will also start next month. The managing director of the PSL, Salman Sarwar Butt, and advisor Haroon Lorgat, also said the board was contemplating having a tax-free league.

The plan is for the tournament to be played over 15 days, a total of 23 matches for the first three years. The five teams will play each other twice in a league format with the top four qualifying for the semi-finals. Each of the five teams would be allowed to sign a maximum of six overseas players and would include 10 local cricketers plus two emerging players. The base prices for the players will be regulated by the PCB and franchises have to adhere to it.

"One of the most positive reasons they [franchises] are coming is to build the sport in Pakistan," Butt said. "They are more interested in putting the best team together rather than what is the price. Our direction is very clear, we are looking at Pakistan to hold this tournament and for now that is very clear. Every player in the respective category will be entered in the auction at base price and the franchise can buy the player at more than or equal to the base price."

The PCB has already invited bids for the broadcasting rights and advertised tenders for commercial partners and sponsors for the PSL. "We have got overwhelming response in terms of interest in buying a franchise," Butt said. "We are now working and talking to various parties and briefing them on franchise concept and the auction will be held next month."

Ajmal Shahzad interested in Pakistan Super League

Ajmal Shahzad who only two years ago was regarded as a integral part of England's fast-bowling future, is the most notable English county player seriously considering whether to sign up for the planned Pakistan Super League.

Pakistan are so anxious to attract overseas players that they have offered life insurance of $2 million (£1.25m) as well as 24-hour personal security for a tournament which would offer competitive cricket immediately ahead of the English county season.

That has been enough for Shahzad to toy with the possibility of making himself available, along with three other county players with Pakistani antecedents: Lancashire's Kabir Ali, Mooen Ali of Worcestershire and Kadeer Ali, who is currently a free agent since being released by Gloucestershire in 2010.

That they would eventually accept offers, though, is far from certain. Players' associations including the international body, FICA, and their England equivalent, the PCA, have warned players that they should not visit Pakistan on security grounds and there is a general acceptance that overseas players will be immensely difficult to attract.

But players with a Pakistan background, and of Muslim religion, are naturally more willing to consider any offers than most, privately feeling that their safety, although impossible to guarantee, might be less compromised.

Shahzad, who is forging a new career with Nottinghamshire after sharing a troubled 2012 season between Yorkshire and Lancashire, said: "It's still early doors but if the PSL is set up professionally and becomes official and the security is top notch then I would think about it. My first commitment is to Notts but the fixtures don't clash with the English season."

Nottinghamshire have taken a firm line against the involvement of their players in the IPL because it clashes with the England season, but their director of cricket, Mick Newell, emphasised that there would be no automatic objection to any overseas T20 tournament which took place in England's close season.

He counselled: "We would advise players to have full discussions with the PCA before making a decision about any overseas T20 tournament so they were fully aware of any issues, but we would not automatically block an NOC if it was requested."

Lancashire are confident that they have dissuaded Kabir from making the trip. "We haven't granted an NOC for any of our players to go forward to the PSL auction," a Lancashire statement said, giving the impression that the subject was closed.

Kabir, though, had been among the keenest to make the trip, despite an unnerving experience with terrorist violence, this time in India, more than four years ago. When attacks on Mumbai forced the suspension of India's tour of India, In November 2008, Kabir was due to have dinner at the Taj Palace, where England were also shortly due to stay, on the night of the attacks. He changed his mind at the last minute and went to the cinema and the shootings began shortly afterwards.

Worcestershire's director of cricket, Steve Rhodes, said that Mooen Ali has also not yet applied for an NOC certificate. Such applications would be premature, however, as details of the PSL have not been finalised. Mooen is believed to have more reservations about the tournament than many others under consideration.

I must say, the 100,000 dollar amount is way too little, but if the event is to last only two weeks, it would be good pay for that amount. However as a poster above me stated, there is no way foreign players will play in Pakistan for just 100K, but I could be wrong.

Low ? Do you know how many Rupees that is ? From Pakistani standards, it's way way too much. For foreigners, well its at least higher than what they are usually offered in county cricket.

Yes for the average Pakistani that is an enormous sum, however for players its significantly lower when compared with the other t20 leagues...Pakistani players got paid more in the BPL where Afridi fetched 750K.
