South African batting great Hashim Amla was full of praise for the Pakistan cricket team on Monday, describing the team as "talented, entertaining and a treat to watch".

Speaking exclusively on Dawn News TV’s sports show Replay, Amla discussed the state of Pakistan cricket and the series of accolades recently won by its players.

He described skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan as "fantastic players", saying their partnership was a "major plus" for Pakistan cricket in all formats of the game and the kind of chemistry they have formed can be the foundation of any successful team.

Coming to the HBL Pakistan Super League 7, he praised the tournament's standards and talent available on show. When questioned on the growth of the younger lot such as Hussain Talat and Haider Ali, Amla described both the players as "hungry" and eager to learn from their seniors, adding that they have a "great future ahead of them".

Amla also praised the quality of the bowling standard in this PSL edition, adding that it would “increase the overall skill level of everyone around”.

“As always, the PSL will unearth a quality fast bowler from the young talent it is grooming,” he predicted.

He also spoke of Peshawar Zalmi's bench strength and squad, saying that he was "very happy" with the mix of talent available to him.

Amla joined Zalmi as their batting mentor after concluding his mandatory quarantine.

For Lahore Qalandars fans, there's a special kind of joy in watching Shaheen Shah Afridi work his magic on the pitch. The Qalandars' captain brought his A-game against Peshawar Zalmi on Wednesday night, helping his team make its way to victory.

The Qalandars set a 200 run-target after batting first. Opener Fakhar Zaman helped bolster the score by making 66 runs off 38 balls while Abdullah Shafique scored 41 runs off 31 balls.
Peshawar Zalmi tried their best to reach the target but faltered early on in the game when Shaheen Shah Afridi dismissed Zalmi's opener Hazratullah Zazai for zero in the third ball of the innings.

Kamran Akmal and Haider Ali chased the run score by making 41 and 49 runs respectively. Ultimately, the team fell short by 29 runs and scored 170/9. The Qalandars picking up regular wickets to put Zalmi on the backfoot; Zaman Khan took three wickets, while Afridi and David Weise took two each. Lahore Qalandars' second win has put them in second place in the PSL points table.

Pakistani Twitter was all praise for Afridi's performance during the match. The skipper dismissing Zazai early on was a memorable moment for many netizens.

At one point during the game, Afridi made a stunning catch at the cusp of the boundary and rest assured, it didn't go unnoticed on Twitter.

Many compared the Lahore Qalandar captain's catch to a similar one made by another famous Afridi.

So Babar Azam's valiant effort of 90 off 63 balls goes in vain as Karachi Kings lose their fourth game on the trot.

Much like their opposition, the Kings commenced sluggishly and were under pressure early when they lost two wickets with just three runs on the board.

Babar went about the ship-steadying work with Ian Cockbain who looked terrific for his 31 off 19 on a slow pitch. But once he was dismissed, the Kings couldn't find someone to provide that impetus through the middle phases.

With the Zalmi bowlers digging it into the pitch and offering no pace to work with, Babar and co found it difficult to up the ante and score as per the required rate. Mohammad Umar, in particular, was superb for his 3/22 that broke the back of Karachi's batting line-up.

In the end, it was too much work to be done at the rear-end and Zalmi managed to secure what turned out to be a comprehensive victory.
