One new interesting thing i just got yesterday is that Pakistan is producing boron carbide since 80's and is used in the PARR series reactors as well as the rest of pakistani reactors

Same news was being discussed on Deftalk in 2006. There has to be some fire to the smoke. Regardless of a source, it indeed is a great step towards further cooperation with our best friend Turkey.

With all due respect, I think this thread is not providing healthy information to less-informative people seeing this thread.

As I stated it is official that Turkey got technological assistance for altays armour, from South Koreans hyundai rotem company.

Pakistanis may of have sold armour tech to turkey, but why would turkey also buy tech from South Korea as well?

It just doesn't make sense.

It just doesn't make sense.

AARDIC in pakistan was manufactued with 110million dollars investment.as the only firm assigned for the development of Armour for pakistan.

turkey might had got composite armour from pakistan.(from rumours the pakistani armour on AK is a combination K)
but later found out that the south korean offered is better and opted for south korean armour on atlay

Because it take a hell alot of time to develop a better armour.AARDIC created in 1999-2000 developed armour in 2005 for pakistan.in 6 years.while it took only 6 years for turkey to develop Atlay

so most probably turkey got complete Armour tot from south korea

Sir i should say but please dont mind. But yr post in that thread abt how selfish Pak army is to be using Boron Carbide which is very expensive and is ruining economy.

The answer to this was that in 80s and 2000s our overall economy was booming we could afford such types of material. Not sure as of today.

But 80's our GDP was below 40-50billion dollars.and smaller GDP grow always with better growth

take the example of Afghanistan.there GDP is only 19billion dollars though there growth rate is in double digit and was 20% in 2005...but can they afford boron carbide?or anything expensive?

Growth does matter no doubt but in the end what matter is the total GDP and ofcourse the defence budget

Right now turkey GDP is in such condition that they can afford the most expensive material on tanks.which ofcourse is the boron carbide.while there growth rate is below pakistan as of last year(2-3% if i am not wrong).

as per my calculation pak GDP in 2020 would be around 500billions dollars.and since we use 4% of GDP on defence.hence the defence budget would be around 20billion dollars

with a budget of 20billions dollar one can afford nuclear submarine and aircraft carrier.

@farhan_9099 , I value your posts and mostly agree with you but on the issue of Aircraft Carrier I would disagree vehemently.

Nuclear Submarine is really needed but Aircraft Carrier does not suit us.

Pakistan Naval Doctrine is based on Brown Water Strategy. Our goal is to defend our territorial Waters and our coastline.

Since our Naval Strategy is inherently Defensive in nature, Pakistan should really have close to 15 to 20 Submarines, including some Nuclear ones because we believe that Submarines are a FORCE MULTIPLIER and any monies spent on Submarines is money well spent.


Aircraft Carriers on the other hand are an expensive Business and to have a credible force we would have to invest 3 to 5 Billion USD in AIRCRAFT CARRIER and Naval Fighters. We would have to invest another 5 to 8 Billion USD in Destroyers to have a Battle Group because AC by themselves do not make a whole lot of sense. Our Budget will not allow us that kind of extravagance so we are better off with a strong below surface Navy to blow up above surface Indian Navy. We just need to make our Submarines quieter and STEALTHIER.

Perhaps, wont be surprized if there was indeed Pakistani technology involved. As long as it benefits us in the long run (More experience and know how) i honestly dont really care.

Our navy doctrine is going to be changed in coming years. U will see them in aggressive posture specially after Chahbahar port being operational. It will be to harress the indian and afghan ships not to use pakistan's territorial water to go and come back from port.

yes we know and we can assume that boron carbide if is used in our tanks is being imported from turkey.

Okay guys, i have learned that Armour of Altay is being co-developed with the Korean guys from Rotem.
