It was US and India who were blocking Sri Lanka to finish up the war while China and Russia were making sure UN didn't intervene so that Sri Lanka could finish the war, instead letting the killing drag on. It seems quickly after the war, China was forgotten and pushed aside.

We lost GSP plus from EU and now our apparel exports to US markets are under threat due to Vietnam joining the TPP. At least now SL could regain GSP plus and SL is also going for either TPP or a FTA with US after studying the choices. After that SL could also negotiate a FTA with the EU as some economists recomended which will give greater benefits than GSP plus. It was humliating when Pakistan has GSP plus and our apparel companies have to invest in Pakistan to get GSP plus. Bloating the Public sector with all the incompetant scum who doesn;t know anything and keeping the subsidy based economy when he had full ten years and got the most power next to JR in modern SL history to reform the economy.
Now all the non-stratergic assets would be privatized thorugh CSE and I personally want the Mihin Lanka completely sold and SriLankan Airline privatized to a certain extent or just be sold entirely as well.
The new govt has already removed the backwards socialist polcies and reduced the issuing of duty free car permits. I also supported them to get rid of the current education system and to systematically end the inefficient free education system. The education reforms are already happening and I hope the second wish will also come true or at least start before 2020.
The biggest economic forum in SL in the decade will begin tommorow and a study conducted by Harvard University’s Centre for International Development on the Sri Lankan economy will also be addressed there.

Chinese do things in a pragmatic way. But it is also different from other utilitarians. Chinese want a conformable and friendly atmosphere first before building trust and engaging business between each other. It is not just about benefits. The behavior that first irritates Chinese and then tries to amend doesn't work very well. Trust is much harder to recover once it is broken. Chinese have a long history and also a long memory, especially of those who back stabbed them shortly after a long period of help provided. That is why Vietnam and China will be on a very long way to rebuild trust if that were even possible.
