Pakistan PM announces $3.2 billion package for farm sector

but now he has all those bhagorey too.
THIS I was also furious about! Them lotay!

there is no such thing as over charging in a free market.

The entire cause of low/poor production is government price controls. Remove these and see the farmers prosper as well as consumer not facing shortages all the time.
Remove controls and see prosper? Which society do you live in? We have farmers who were overcharging during flood crisis
We have landlords who were stocking produce until it rot instead of selling at low price during crises
We have people who were dying but not prosperity!

The time to see how a man acts is during crisis....We saw how they acted!

.
This is called progress, not fixing a road in Peshawar and claiming Naya KPK while thousands of rats are living in the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar
Progress involves scamming the National Treasury in the name of farmers?

You need to learn some economics....

Here's a very rough example....

Year 1 : You have 10 people. And you have 10 people worth of supplies produced that year (let's call that 10 units). Each unit sells for Rs.2.
Year 2: Flood damages production. You have same 10 people. But now supplies reduced to 7 units. How do you distribute the resources ?

A. Under a free market, price will rise depending on how important the commodity is to people (which depends on availability of alternatives). So if the market is free, the price will rise, say to Rs.2.8/unit. That gives farmers an automatic signal/incentive to kick up production for next year and/or find ways to stop floods from affecting production (maybe move farmlands to places less prone to floods). Only 7 people get to buy this commodity as there are only 7 units. In year 3, production goes back to 10 units and price comes down to Rs.2 and there's no longer a shortage.

OR

B. The prices are naturally supposed to go up. But the government puts a price ceiling so that the commodity sells in the market at a "fair" price. With "fair" prices in place, since there is only 7 units, only 7 people will get that commodity on first come first serve basis. Farmer makes a loss (due to lost production). Last year he had sales of 10x2=20. This year with gov. prices down to 7x2=14. He now has no incentive in increasing production nor does he have the cash necessary to increase production. Production levels remain low for subsequent years and there remains a shortage in the market.

supplies reduced to 7 units
You didnt read my post did you? They stored their "supply" in storage and let it rot instead of reducing the price and earning something...Not sure how that is earning anything! Nor in any language is that "economical"

. .
Instead of giving funds they should give tax incentives as done in Europe....depending on how much the farmers produce or put in....irrespective of the natural disasters (drought and floods)...

What govt should really do is invest in research to improve crop roots to withstand floods and/or drought!

india has been doing it for a while pata nai ganjay ka damagh kub khulay ga!
how abt hitting ganja with a baseball bat?

That must have been their way of protesting...Although most likely, mostly it was media hype.

And you also mentioned floods. So did the supply come down due to "hoarding" or floods ? Most probably floods, exaggerated by "hoarding" which they probably did as protest.

That's what happens when you try to impose a price ceiling.

Progress involves scamming the National Treasury in the name of farmers?

How exactly is it scamming? You PoTI trolls don't even know how it works! You should stick to dharnas and naach gana. Leave ordinary Pakistanis alone.

prices are shambolic and profit is negligible, farmers are struggling to make ends meet

1 word for you: - UNBELIEVABLE!

So genius how does it work with soo many landlords in the parliament?

Awww Nooooni angry. How cute.

Handing out cash is detrimental to the economy. It serves no benefit to flush billions into the system like this.

Do you even know what you're talking about? While I agree a credit based economy is not good in short term, it is EXCELLENT in long term. It makes the

well then why is the production low?
Farming sector needs reforms and it should also be taxed. I did a note recently on how much the production is of the main crops plus compared it with the averages from USA. There are improvements to be made and there could a number of reasons. Seed selection, water availability, fertilizer and pesticide use will make a big difference. Crop rotation is also important. Potato was produced in abundance this year to rot in the fields as the cost of producing was more than price farmer was getting. So many farmers didn't even bother to harvest them and left them in the fields as to cut their losses. Cold Storages were full so they couldn't even store the produce. In contrast to this last year farmers were selling potatoes for very high prices.
Wheat is in abundance (government even have stock from 2012-2014 I think).

on royal tv they were showing ad that 70% of dates in balochistan and 60% in sind perished instead of preserving them and selling them to get forign exchange they get wasted.
pakistan is the 6th largest buffalo milk producing country in the world , the best mozarella chesse is made of buffalo milk ,ore expensive than cow milk cheese, even cow milk and goat milk can be turned into cheese, we dont need nestle or habeeb milk we need cottage industry that way we provide people with more jobs, we need the know how , how to train them
you might have heard the mango ban by europe, the govt has to have safegaurds against that , they know about fruitfly ban ineurope , test it , it should be treated and only then allowed to be exported
we should putore emphasis on value added services , instead of exporting coyton why not cloth , just saying
Well farmers need education and know-how to preserve dates as they can even be stored at room temperature. So don't blame the government for this. Take your own initiative, don't blame everything on the government.
There are already number of cheese producers in Punjab and industry is expanding but it will take sometime.
Value added services will only be produced when the electricity problem is solved. Why did the textiles moved their factories?

Think about it. How much a small farmer can store? Where will he get the money to cultivate next crop? Most farmers will sell their harvested crop so that they can have funds for the next crop as well as for their day to day lives. Maybe some large farmers will put crops in storage but there is a limit to how much can be stored. As far as the price goes farmers don't have a say in this but Supply and Demand.
