Pakistan & ongoing crisis

When Nationalism is good, nothing is better, when it is bad, nothing is worst.
We saw ultra nationalists form Germany and it's fallout; from a country the size of Baluchistan.Since its inception Pakistan has been in the midst of a power struggle, both externally from the erstwhile Super Powers, and internally on the political front.

The power brokers internally have been the establishment, and the political setup. More often than not, the military establishment is accused of running the political show behind the scenes.

The four provinces run their own affairs, which includes administering access to the all important resources such as minerals, water, agriculture and to a smaller extent manpower. It can be argued that the economical strength of any country is based on the aforementioned four resources.Unfortunately, a look at the provincial government yields a bleak fact. The assemblies are dominated by feudal lords. Dynasties who were a part of the Muslim League at the time of creation, and have since stayed in power using politics as a survival tactic.

If there is one thing that Imran Khan's political failure before his election has taught us, is that a non feudal party cannot, and will not be allowed to win. Corruption, Religion and violence are all too common. We can make an exception for religious parties, but they too have feudal links one way or another.

Thus what army represents the only institution that allows ordinary free middle class to gain some sort of power into the country's future. This I believe is the pivotal factor in understanding the so called power struggle.Being the defender of the realm and larger national interest the same army officer who passed out as second lieutenant develops a sense of belonging, frustration, and hope as he attempts to change the way his country has been run and administered. This is in stark contrast to a feudal who is trained to ensure his dynasty's survival and business growth.

So long as the political theater will be dominated by the political and feudal elite, and the inclusion of common man will remain impossible; the soldiers who are almost entirely from the middle class families will continue to react; be that out of frustration, nationalism or a number of other reasons.Local governance and grass root implementation of government functions are the only other thing that will lead to a consensus on national priorities and long term strategic plans for the sake of the country and her people.
