Pakistan officially inducts HQ 9 Air Defence system

HQ-9P HIMAD

According to Pakistani sources, Pakistan, as a very close ally of China, apparently obtained the original Chinese version of the HQ-9 system instead of the other export version..

The HIMAD missile defense system acquired by Pakistan is a special version for Pakistan under the name HQ-9P with a range of up to 230 km..

Neither China nor Pakistan announced the number of batteries included in the deal..

A few points I'd like to make:

1. rumor has it that there are 4 batteries with 192 missiles per battery. But as you rightly said, nothing has been "officially" announced and frankly, this is the first time that the world has learned that HQ-9P actually exists.

2. india does not have the s400 as of yet while Pakistan has deployed the HQ-9P and would most probably be (if it hasn't been already) deployed at the LOC while China has already deployed their S400 on the LAC, so 👇👇👇this very accurately describes the condition of indian air farts err I mean force right now...

3. frankly I don't think india will get the s400 due to being scared shitless of the catsa sanctions while their economy is in complete shambles.

4. but even if they do defy their daddy's catsa sactions and go for the s400s anyway, it is very irrelevant because if the HQ-9P is capable of shooting down ballistic missiles and bvr air to air missiles, it can also shoot down 48n6 missiles of their s400s. and besides, their aircrafts will have to fly at least 150 kilometers away which effectively renders them useless which, in turn means that their ground troops at the loc won't have any air cover for a minimum of 150 kilometers against the "atank vaadis"...translation? its open hunting season on the bharti sainiks. 8-)

The HQ-9P was there a while ago..but they have waited for its full integration in the Pakistani C4I before announcing it.. Now you can say that Pakistan has a fully integrated air defence system X3..

There's a debate going on the sidelines of the HQ-9 induction regarding air defence in Karachi and Lahore. Team Lahore has gone a bit sentimental talking about the cultural and historical significance of Lahore and it being a population hub, basically all of the things that don't matter in air defence.

First, let's analyze what air defence is primarily used to defend:
- Airbases
- Defence Production Facilities
- Cantonments
- Strategic Infrastructure
- Arms Depots
- Nuclear facilities.

Now, let's do the required comparison.

Lahore

IV Corps HQ
Lahore Cantt
Allama Iqbal International Airport
Karachi-Peshawar Railway Line
Major Locomotive Works

Karachi

V Corps HQ
Karachi Cantt
Malir Cantt
Jinnah International Airport
PAF Base Malir
PAF Base Korangi Creek
PAF Airbase Faisal (Karachi's airbases are tasked with defence of Southern Sindh)
PAF Airbase Masroor (All of PAF's Naval Squadrons)
PAF Airbase Bholari (close proximity)
Port of Karachi
Port of Bin Qasim
Petroleum Facilities at Port Bin Qasim
Beginning Point of Karachi-Peshawar Railway Line
Karachi Shipyard And Engineering Works
PN Facilities at Manora
Navy Dockyards (Primary Naval Base, a little searching on Google Maps would make clear its importance)
Kanupp II and III
Major installations related to our jawab if India goes naughty

I understand that the Karachi-Lahore rivalry will never die, but please leave your petty sympathies and politics at home when discussing defense. O7.

Sidenote:
All areas of Pakistan deserve to be defended equally :). This post was just a comparison to make clear priorities.

Meanwhile folks in Pindi/Islamabad area. What is that, Another Air Defense System. Kool. Who ordered it… :flame:

. .
Folks in Pindi keep the folks in Islamabad on a need to know basis. At the time and place of ordering the system, Islamabadis didn't need to know.
The Daddy who wrote the check is in Islamabad. He has to know in advance. Plus your Air and Naval HQ is in Islamabad.

. .
VariantModifications
HQ-9AImproved electronic equipment and software provide the 9A with higher accuracy and probability of kill
HQ-9BLonger 300 km range; an additional seeker provides semi-active radar homing and infrared homing modes
HQ-9CCurrently in development; incorporates fully active radar homing
HHQ-9Naval variant identical to HQ-9; launched from VLS tubes in Lanzhou class destroyers
HHQ-9ANaval variant identical to HQ-9A
FD-2000Identical to the original HQ-9, but designed for export with minor electronic improvements
FT-2000Anti-radiation system; a range of up to 100 km

The main missile performance of FD2000B is equivalent to 48N6E3, and that of HQ9B is equivalent to 48N6DM.

FD2000B is similar to S300PMU2.
HQ9B is similar to S400 lacking 48N6.
HQ9C is similar to S400 with enhanced anti missile capability.
HQ19 is similar to a mixture of THAAD-ER and S500.

Note that S500 is not an upgraded version of S400. Both S500 and S400 are upgraded versions of S300, but they focus on different directions.

Well yes, because the looters you guys send to the assemblies are unreliable and can't keep national secrets.
For example Benazir Bhutto handed over the entire list of Khalistan leaders to India, without asking anything in return.
Pakistan lost a great leverage over India and years of hardwork by ISI.
Plenty more similar examples.

what do you mean "you guys', I haven't voted in Pakistan... :what:

Also, if I was Pakistan, I'd have tried to negotiate the HQ-19, the state of the art system will low atmospheric reach / ASAT / ABM, sort of equivalent to the US THAAD and if I could either license produce this in Pakistan or get ToT, Pakistan would start building the SAM / ABM industry internally and knowledge base with a very advance system.

The war between Pakistan and India does not require HQ19. The biggest advantage of HQ19 is the midcourse anti missile.

Correct - not only was it there a while ago but the Indians too were aware of it being there after a few months in country. Currently Ravi Nirudkar at Raytheon is making his pitch for a large AARGM purchase by India but is being countered by DRDO with Rudram. Hopefully the DRDO guys prevail so there is a half operational system and not something as well built and effective as the AARGM.

Agreed. FIGHTING against the enemy near suburbs or urban areas would greatly benefit the defending forces. But on the flip side modern rocket artillery, short range cruise/ballistic missiles and air launched stand off weapons pose a big huge issue for us as there could be massive exchanges of those long range precision guided weapons across the border in an all out war and having major population centers and vital infrastructure within 100-200 km of the border makes it a bit more vulnerable and complicated as well for us.

But nevertheless having a credible multi layered air defense, well dug in defensive positions, a robust airforce and large scale preemptive strikes inside enemy's territories would be a great deterrent.

The fate of the battles would be decided in the air and results then would be sealed on the ground.
Modern warfare requires mechanized infantry and good airlift capabilities. Those days are gone when infantry travel on foot and Trucks without armor. You gotta transport troop to theater. Once Indian defense lines are penetrated, next object should be nearest Garrison or City. Which could means bypassing farms and small villages and hours of transportation. Expect more enemy defense near Garrison or city. Once Garrison or City is captured. Every thing around it automatically considered captured area.

.
Generally, restarting a weapons production line is very expensive, I think that is much higher than the price difference between HQ9A and HQ9B.
So I think that Pakistan bought HQ9B.

Don't talk common sense as some here might jump up and down in anger.

even this became lahore vs karachi? for God sake .... pura infrastructure tu banwa diya ab kia bachay ki jaan lu gai ... khandar bach gaye hain woh tu bachanay du :P
