ISLAMABAD:

Defence Minister Khurram Dastgir has proposed an all-encompassing strategic pact between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia for deepening the defence ties between the two countries, says an official handout released on Tuesday.
The proposal from the minister came during his meeting with visiting Saudi Deputy Defence Minister Mohammad bin Abdullah al Aeysh. The senior Saudi official also held separate talks with army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Dastgir told the Saudi official that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia were progressing towards a comprehensive defence relationship for the 21st century. However, he noted that that despite the enduring relations between the two countries, there was no formal strategic cooperation agreement.

In the same context, the minister proposed an all-encompassing strategic cooperation agreement to deepen the defence ties between the two countries.

He also highlighted the extensive LoC violations from the Indian side which had resulted in numerous civilian casualties. He conveyed Pakistan’s expectation of the Saudi Kingdom to play its diplomatic role to redress the situation.

The deputy defence minister stated that the kingdom sought Pakistan’s support for training Saudi armed forces, especially in the domain of counterterrorism, asymmetric warfare and mountain fighting.

Minister Dastgir highlighted that as part of the strategic cooperation, agreements between national defense universities of both the countries might be formalised in order to expand cooperation in strategic planning.

He also sent his felicitations to Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman for holding a successful ministerial meeting of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC), and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and safety of Haramain Sharifain.

I think this is great. Defence pact with KSA is long over due. Now couple it with the trilateral alliance (Pak-Azerbaijan-Turkiye).....Good going Pakistan :)

Defence pact with KSA means you are having defence pact with entire Arab world.

good 4 both countries.. hope its quickly made .. and both countries should do JV in defence industries.. and other economic related field where we can learn from Saudia Arabia ..

and plz people dont torll if u dont like Pak and saudi relations.. lets have a fine and productive discussion, not master and salves and so on..

Strategic pacts are on level playing fields and mutual respect. And the Saudis always consider themselves above the rest, and there is no way they treat Pakistan with mutual respect. Also Geopolitical regional and international realities are fast changing. So I am not sure if such a pact in in the national interest of Pakistan.

Saudis probably does not know what Strategic pacts is? 2nd, they have no strategies or foreign policy, they puppets of the west.
IMHO, Balancing act is important, we don't want to isolate Iran. Iranian planners have the same strategies as Abdullah ibn Sabah, destroying Muslim world, Iraq and Syria are gone...Yemen, Lebonan next??

Pakistan has ever green relationship with KSA...We are too much involved in them to leave them. They have good outreach/influence in Western world...Our good relations with Saudis helped us in surviving sanctions US imposed on us after the testing of nukes...They are loyal

Stop calling your country mercenary. Allies help each other just like Saudis and Pakistanis are helping each other out for decades. Iran is no body in Pak-Saudia relations.

Houthis are crossing red line and Iran apologists are also making Pakistanis angry...If any Houthi missile end up blasting in any major city or holy cities, and if Pakistanis or others get killed in that, kiss houthi rebels and Iran good bye. Pakistani troops are already in Holy cities and more are about to join in the alliance.

Turkiye joined, Pakistan joined the alliance...Everyone joined despite having differences...No one wants to build 1.5 inch mosque like Iranians...A brainwashed isolated country who view everything through sectarian lens...

Don't spread panic...Pakistanis won't allow any proxy of Iran to raise her head. No one is going to get killed. We Pakistanis are there in KSA to safeguard millions of Pakistanis working in GCC/KSA...

Since when we started caring about Iran...No one isolated Iran. They isolated themselves from world. They are not even liked by Muslims regarding their role in Syria. Isolated in western world. Isolated in Muslim world...That's Iran for you.

Yes, you are right. They are hell bent on destroying Muslim world one by one due to their sectarian policies. Arabs used to fight against Israel but then a fitna raised its head in 1979 and rest is history.

Pakistan joining KSA alliance, doesn't mean we are isolating Iran. We still have trade relations with them like others. But when defense cooperation comes, Arabs are far far far better than Iranians...

Make alliance with Iran regarding Afghanistan but as a whole Saudis have more to offer, definitely.

grow up dear.

I am 24 years old. Grown enough to understand who's playing what.

What points?

Silly idea. We shouldn't take sides in Iran Vs Saudi unless one of the sides is willing to end aggression. Ideally we should offer a nuclear umbrella to both nations in exchange for an end to proxy hostilities and total support for Kashmir. Anything else is not in our interest.

Bad move.
We are not willing to kill our boys for the Saudis who don't care about Al Aqsa. We mustn't fight in Saudi wars.

Pakistan has good relations with Saudi Arabia. We should keep it up. :)

I don't think there will be any strategic defense pact..

IF it is a reality than following things to made that happen.

as few days ago pentagon said that Saudi are considering to fight with Iran in Afghanistan and as US also don't want to leave Afghanistan atleast for next decade. and for that they have to create situation worse so that they should show the world that they are doing good things there.
Saudi's are desperate to bring war into Iran and create civil war in Iran, and for that they already have tried in Iraq and Syria but fail to get anything from it and the only country where they will fight with Iran is Afghanistan, but for that they have to cross from Pakistan and they have to Bring Pakistan with them, otherwise all the neighboring countries of Afghanistan are either hostile to Saudi or they are not interested in fighting with anyone..

The Plan would be to have a defence strategic pact with Pakistan and by using Pakistan Create Havoc in Iran via Afghanistan or Pakistan itself, and after that they would attack Iran directly and since Pakistan has already made defence Pact with Saudi, Iran will divert its resources also to Pakistan during war and they might attack in Pakistan on some groups or on LEA to warn Pakistan to not enter into war. but Since Pact is there Saudi will create alot of pressure on Pakistan to enter into war, they might even force Pakistani labor to leave their countries to create Pressure on Pakstan. and If Pakistan enter into war fully Iran will be covered by 3 sides and only side left would be of Turkey.

From Afghanistan USA will attack.
From Pakistan, Pakistan will attack.
From Persian Gulf, GCC will attack.

and afcourse since Pakistan is involved China might not interfere with that Power and Pressure. But Russia will do its part in protecting Iran.

And If USA did not involved in the war and there is a possibility that Russia will be forced to not enter into war and this war will be called as a internal fight between Muslim sects(shia and Sunni).

there are no angels or devils.

Iran is more than welcome to discuss it with Pakistan a similar coverage.

What exactly is the basis of such alliance?
