Because its a new unproven design, a prototype if you may. They will build one, test it thoroughly and than apply lessons learnt from this prototype on future production models.

Can SSGN use the Gun boats ?

The gun boats are reported to be stealthy so with high speeds certainly look to be used for insertion missions by Navy marines or SSGN in future. Not for customs or law enforcement.

Too expensive for a country like Pak...with a rather small navy.

what we need is a totally separate ship building city where you bring in young kids teach them the basics of ship building and step by step keep add more technical knowledge by working with Chinese , Koreans and our Turkish brothers for both commercial and Navy ships. Karachi shipyard has become like a Sunday market with too much going on in a small place .Plus We cant carry on like just assembling kits for our Navy requirements. Over the years i have seen so much Pakistani talent being wasted all over the world for no reason my own grandfather was working in a Norwegian ship building company in the 80s .

I agree with your general viewpoint. A proper shipping and fishing industry, on contemporary lines needs to be set up. For this, Pakistan needs to give KSEW an organizational revamp - to be run on merit bases by naval engineers and architects, not semi-retiring officials.

KSEW could be spun off into a publicly traded stock, where government would retain a minority stake of 20% and remain a silent investor. This would allow it to become a for profit and more efficient organization.

Thereafter, some modern fishing vessels can be imported from South Korea and China, studied and a local fishing industry started. KSEW could churn out large ocean going fishing vessels, just as China, South Korea and Japan do. This would provide massive opportunity for employment for Pakistan.

Vessels could range from small to large to ocean going vessels. Ultimately, the Makran Coast could be dotted with small modern cities being sustained by the fishing industry alone.

20 Gun boats confirmed by out going PN chief.
Although these boats will be small but overall nubers are big. interesting thing to note is title i.e. Gun boats.

No detail out yet but if they go far a boat around 180 to 200 T class it definatly will give PN a big capabalities. Just wating for more details to come out.

The boat, as @PAR 5 mentioned will displace around 200 Tons and will be equipped with 25mm and 12.7mm guns. Just from comparison perspective, we got only two boats in somewhat same patrol boat cetagory: PNS Larkana (180 tons disp) and PNS Rajshahi (130 tons displ).
