Pakistan Navy’s shelling of Dwarka in 1965 War

Opeation Dwarka is a big blot in the annals of Naval bombardments.

It failed to achieve every single one of it objectives, primary being dangling a bait for Indian Navy to come out and confront Pakistani ships in open sea...where Pakistani submarine can attack them.

Shelling was completely ineffective, it failed to hit anything of significance. Most of the arty fell in a open field and missed the radar station by a long shot.

Naval officer on board the PNS ships had failed to account for tidal variations in calculating the required gun angles for hitting the radar stations.

Hardly anyone was injured or anything was damaged except an old circuit house,..which recived superficial damage from a shell landing in its vicinity.

The shell used in the operation were actually made by Indian Ordnance factory(pre partition).

nice COPY PASTING from BHARAAAT RAKHSAAAK. good job :wave:

I understand what the thread was about, however it seems you pakistanis have very little to be proud of.

An Indian net warriors acknowledgement will be insignificant in any case.
And it's considered "Victory Day" in the land of pure. What were your bearded morons thinking?
When those pony tail gas bags wipe their noses with their dohtis, their country fellows seem to envoy the view with pride unknown to mankind.. See if you can read beyond your saffron goggles.
Operation Dwarka was a significant naval operation of the 1965 war,[1][6] considered by some as a nuisance raid or of little strategic value.[7][8][9] The Ministry of Defence had issued written instructions which ordered the Indian Navy "not to proceed two hundred miles beyond Bombay nor North of the parallel of Porbander".[10] The lack of response by the Indian Navy to the attack on Dwarka led to questions being asked in Indian parliament[5] and was considered a humiliation by Indian citizens and Navy personnel and a challenge to be answered by others.[11][5]:52[12] The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral B.S. Soman was restrained from retaliation for the Dwarka raid by the Defence Minister.[10] Of the Indian Navy's 23 ships, ten were under refit in Bombay, including the Vikrant, the cruiser Delhi, three destroyers and two frigates.[5][13] An Indian source explained this by saying that the Indian Government did not want to get into a naval conflict with Pakistan, but wished to restrict the war to a land-based conflict.[14] The failure of INS Talwar to retaliate, then undergoing repairs to her condensors in Okha,[15] has been lamented by Indian Vice Admiral N. Krishnan who said that no Government would blame a warship going into action, if attacked.[11][16] PNS Ghazi continued to patrol Kachhh and Bombay coasts spotting aircraft positions when snorkeling.[17]
The Dwarka raid is considered by Pakistani sources as being a prime reason for the Indian Navy's subsequent post-war modernization and expansion, with an increase in budget from Rs. 35 crores to Rs. 115 crores.[11] The Dwarka raid, as per an Indian historian G. M Hiranandani, led to the procurement of missile boats by the Indian Navy from the Soviet Union for the Defense of Kutch.

LOL @ The insecurity of Indians.

What has this got to do with insecurity. We were merely laughing at the pointlessness of the Dwarka shelling and it being celebrated in Pakistan.

Pity. However nothing compares to 97,000 captured "soldiers" as well as getting their country torn in half.

Gotta agree with windjammer here on this mate. You posted off topic. This has nothing to do with '71 war.

Is the Dwarka incident really something to be proud of? It was so ineffective that if I was the Pakistani PM, I would disband the complete Pakistani Navy for being so useless, and maybe invest that money in the Army or the Ariforce where $hit actually gets done.

Chill dude, "insecurity" is just a new word that he has learnt today, let him use it and make sentences. Part of learning process for the kid.

So were they so afraid of Ghazi that even with a fleet of "crappy ships" lurking along side Indian coast line, shelling your city, your fleet never confronted the PN just because of Ghazi???

At least we have some recognition from Indian side as well for the PN and particular PNS Ghazi's efforts in 65 war!

so you hit a cement factory and circuit house big deal

you dont see anyone gloating about setting fire to karachi harbour twice
lets have a recap

Indian Navy at war 1971 - West - YouTube

Is it too difficult for your Indian mind to comprehend that we are discussing 1965 and not 1971 war, but i guess digressing is the only option left for you Indians to salvage some pride. Perhaps I should bring in Pathankot and Kalikunda to put a lid on you.

TO paksitanis

1] What was the objective of Dwarak mission
2] what all was destroyed ?
3] did the objective prove detrimental later on ?

You are well aware of the fate of your Ghazi..and how it met its ends on footsteps of Vizag harbour, 6 yrs later. You are also aware how Indian Navy blasted Karachi, Chittagong etc and completely blockaded both your Eastern and Western wings the same year despite the threat of Ghazi.

But the fact is Indian Navy was not given any clear political directive in 1965 war(just like the previous wars 1947-48 or 1962 war, how IN was not involved.)

Indian Navy's objective was not to fall for the bait(like the one which Ghazi fell for 6 yrs later and met it demise), Pakistani had dangled in front for it.

Hence Indian navy for all practical purposes was not involved in the war.

Despite this totally passive approach of Indian Navy..Pakistani Navy proved itself totally incapable causing any significant damage to India or Indian navy...what does that tell you about the capabilities of your Navy?
