AMAN 11 kicks off
KARACHI: A multinational naval exercise ‘Aman 11’ was formally inaugurated on Tuesday with a flag hoisting and opening ceremony held here at Pakistan Navy (PN) Dockyard.
Ships of the participating navies, observers, foreign diplomats and a large number of PN officers and sailors attended the ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Abbas Raza said that PN’s initiative of multinational exercise Aman 11 is an effort, which will surely improve the response, tactics and procedures to enhance interoperability in a joint-operational environment. The exercise is focused on combating and countering all illegal activities particularly in the North Arabian Sea, which is very critical for the under-sea electric lines and serves as a lifeline for world energy economies.
Admiral Abbas further said that crime and terrorism were not confined to specific any boundaries rather their effects were felt all over the world. “This area also has the potential to improve the maritime trade of the region and of the world”, he said. He said that the use of sea routes by terrorists, human trafficking, smuggling and piracy are of major concern. We need to make collective efforts to eliminate these for lasting peace in the region, he added. Commander Pakistan Fleet extended warm welcome to the participating navies and hoped that the joint exercise will help find common answers against maritime threats. He also appreciated participating nations for supporting Pakistan’s resolve for ensuring peace in the region. Harbour phase of the Aman exercise, during the harbor phase, the participating forces deliberated upon planning and execution of the exercise. Standing Operating Procedures were discussed at length to be practically implemented during the sea phase. The sea phase would be followed by analysis phase.

Multinational naval exercise enters sea phase
Pakistan Navy (PN) announced on Friday that its ongoing multinational naval exercise AMAN-11 had entered in its crucial sea phase.
The exercise is being carried out to adopt a collective international maritime response against multi-dimensional sea-borne threats including piracy at high seas, human and drug smuggling, and terrorism.
Naval assets including ships, helicopters, submarines, and Special Forces elements, of the navies of 11 nations actively participating in the exercise, sailed out to the Arabian Sea where the maritime maneuvers are in progress.
All the maritime platforms, of different maritime forces, participating in the exercise are being subjected to the real threat environment, said the PN statement issued in this connection.
Various tactical maneuvers, replenishment at sea including transfer of men and material from one ship to another, surface firing on pre-determined targets, countering air-to-surface, and surface-to-surface threats, insertion of commandos on ships through helicopters and anti-submarine warfare exercises were conducted during the sea phase.
