Pakistan Navy P-3C Orion Thread

Although I am with that PN should have taken the deliveries of P-3C much earlier like 7 P-3Cs Upgraded and 3 AEW&Cs P-3Cs with required weapons and the parts needed for the next five years. More over PAC should make a maintenance and Over haul complex for these aircrafts instead of getting the OHPs. This will give a pure Maritime Advantage to them.

From today's paper.

Pakistan Navy on Tuesday inducted two US-made P3C Orion maritime surveillance aircraft, nearly a year after two similar planes were destroyed by heavily armed terrorists who stormed a strategic naval airbase in Karachi.

The aircraft, modified with modern avionics and sensors with US assistance being provided under the Foreign Military Funding programme, were inducted during a ceremony at the naval airbase in southern Sindh's provincial capital Karachi.

The Pakistan Navy is set to receive a total of six such aircraft from the US in batches of two each. The first batch was inducted into the navy in 2010, a naval statement said.

The modified aircraft have ‘extended surveillance capability’, which will help the navy maintain vigil in its ‘vital area of interest in the north Arabian Sea’, the statement said. The area is regarded as an important trade and energy corridor for the global economy and is home to ‘intense maritime activity, both legal and illegal, and thus warrants continuous guard’, the statement said.

the P3Cs were destroyed to permit infiltration from the coasts in gwadar, turbat area etc. now the saboteur bases are up and running so surveillance does not matter. plus the naval /CG/ marines (!) staff have been sufficiently compromised to prevent and problems.....P3Cs now don t make a difference....

Navy receives US surveillance aircraft

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani navy took delivery Tuesday of two state-of-the-art, US-made surveillance aircraft nine months after militants destroyed two similar planes, officials said.

Pakistan said the P3C aircraft, modified with the latest avionics, are designed to improve surveillance in the North Arabian sea, one of the world’s most important shipping routes deeply troubled by Somali piracy.

“The two aircraft have been delivered to the Pakistan navy. These aircraft have been provided under the foreign military funding programme,” a spokesman for the US embassy in Islamabad, told AFP.

The navy said the aircraft would help “maintain requisite vigil in our vital area of interest in the North Arabian Sea”, which it said was “home to intense maritime activity both legal and illegal and thus warrants continuous guard”.

Pakistan is to receive six P3C aircraft from the United States in three batches. The first two, received in 2010, were destroyed during a 17-hour siege of a key naval base in Karachi last May blamed on the TTP

•Pakistan receives 2 upgraded P-3C sea control & surveillance planes from the USA. That makes 2 now. It would be 4, but jihadists destroyed the first 2 during an attack on their base at PNS Mehran.

On 22 May 2011, two out of the four Pakistani P-3C aircraft were destroyed by a terrorist attack while parked on the tarmac during an attack at the Mehran Pakistani Naval Air Base in Karachi. [24] In June 2011, The United States agreed to replace the destroyed aircraft with two new ones, with delivery to follow later.[25]

Pakistan replaces Orions lost in 2011 Taliban attack

Gareth Jennings Aviation Desk Editor - London

The Pakistan Navy has taken delivery of two Lockheed Martin P-3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft to replace those destroyed in a 2011 militant attack on their home base, national media have reported.

The new aircraft, delivered on 21 February, will replace the two P-3Cs that were destroyed in a Taliban assault on Pakistan Naval Station (PNS) Mehran in the southern city of Karachi on 23 May.

These two aircraft were delivered to Pakistan in the late 1990s. A subsequent USD970 million deal for eight more Orions was signed in 2004, with delivery of the platforms now under way.

Although it was announced in August 2011 that the destroyed aircraft would be replaced by the US government, no delivery timetable had been disclosed

So what should we do? Return them back as we do not need them now or what or vigillance will never be needed again? Let us not spin a knee jerk reaction.

Wrong. As far as I know, the US has agreed to 'replace' those P3Cs but these two received are a part of the order given in 2004, not as replacement for the destroyed.

the most pathetic thing is that they do not have a single hanger for such large aircrafts. They burn in sunlight, collect rust in humidity and bear the storms and then last year 2 lost in attacks.
There is only one large hanger at Faisal that houses the colourful maritime aircraft of PN (i couldn't remember its name). thats it
