What's new

Pakistan minimum wage increased from Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000.

Ah, you ran out of your words to counter my argument?

The gov't pays a hefty amount of my tuition. An international student pays 5 times of what I pay. The gov't gives me money if I show them I'm student and I take public transportation. So in a way, the taxes collected by me and many others are helping everyone out. We've roads, we have transportation. True that I'm poor, but the gov't has allowed a poor student to be able to study at a university many Pakistanis can dream of. To be able to ride in public transportation that is better than an old private mehran. I pay a fourth of regular amount because the gov't has given subsidy.

We pay collective tax here and it has allowed me to live happily whilist being poor. I don't mind paying even 25% tax.

Need say more? Or will you come back with more attitude?

Yes I agree that they've to spend their money lavishly, which is wrong. But if that is to say, why do we complain of rich not paying tax? If we live in this world where gov't is corrupt, we all stop paying tax? Corruption is everywhere, even in west, in India. But we still see infastructures being made. India is improving its railway, we're purchasing new aircrafts. These are costly. If we simply say the gov't is corrupt and will get mercedes with my money, I'd not pay a dime.

If I was in Pakistan, I would pay every penny of my tax happily. My parents used to pay tax, so there is no doubt. Because I know there are people like me, who dsipite agreeing that gov't is corrupt, continue to pay tax and so we can see motorways being made, airport improvement, transportation so forth. People like me have made a small river flowing and if we all come together, we will create an ocean.

Listen dude we do pay tax..even on a single packet of chips and even on a box of match and again most of the working people get their pays after tax deduction. Its only those who earn below 40K who are relieved of it. But you keep saying the rich people should not pay tax also. Are you telling them to break the law. The entire middle class pays tax. Only the limited number of people are relieved of it which is provided by the constitution and state religion. Again I have to remind you that you can't tell someone to do something because you think its right or its successful in the place where you live..islam set its rules..any objection above it overruled.
The rich persons are to give tax just like they have to give zakat for the poor not the poor have to give it for welfare of the rich. The person who has nothing to their name would give what to others.
Statistically 220 rupees make the food of one day for a whoever family. But all they need isn't food, they need clothes, school fees, House rent and transport and what will they do in case any of them has to go to a hospital. The employers dont provide any amenities here all has to be managed in the meager 12000 and mostly dont even get that. Its always less.

I dont give a damn about economics, id rather want people to have adequate money to lead a life at least what we can regard as human. And the comparison was just an example of inflation. If a good earing perosn has to shunt so much money for some clothes dont forget the poor one wont be able to afford a single cheap meter of cotton.
And who are you again? If you are a someone of adequate authority to prevent me fron posting or viewing this thread then do it ,if not keep your lame sarcasm to yourself
I missed your zakat.

Sadly in our 'Islamic' country, everyone pretends to be poor. We're not as honest as before. We do evil behind the name of religion.

So what is poverty? Is poverty something where one can't afford a meal? Or poverty where a man can survive till next day?

My 1 or 2% is just an example. All i mean is we need to have a river flowing. What about .5% tax? 2 rupees a day. Or even .1%. My point is entirely that when you have these 1 or 2 rupees gathering up, times that with millions of population, you can use that money to spend on education or whatnot. Not paying tax because you make 12000 (there are people who make 100 rupees a day?) or that gov't is corrupt is not a wise excuse.

The reason a country runs because everyone pays their fair share. My 2 weeks of food can't run this country, but if thiusands like me start paying tax, the gov't will become functional.

Idiot the govt wont of Pakistan wont run even if we give them all our earnings.because they are dishonest people and will only steal never be loyal to the nation.

Secondly I am thankful to Allah that the conditions here are much better than what poverty is..because everyday now I see how open heartedly the people are welcoming and giving stuff for IDPs.. but that doesn't change the fact..you are still saying something that is against islamic principles. Look no matter how much you say. The law here ain't changing and tax free is the only relief we provide to our poor people. You can ear two to four weeks in a restaurant even after paying tax heres its different. Do you know that 1$= 99 Pakistani rupees okay.
What you are proposing is wrong and not islam not the people and not even the govt will agree to it. So most probably your debate is useless. And dont make claims that get to your throat. Try living a life of the labor here then you will know how much that 12000 is when you have no upgraded world standard machines, you work intensively for hours and even over do work and get nothing but a meager amount that isn't even enough to buy you and your family enough food let alone anything else.

You misread my post. First, I wasn't referring to you.

This would be last time I'll entertain your post. I don't want to repeat again. If you missed something, go read my post again.

1) You pay tax, but not every single one. When I was in Pakistan, there was income tax, but never tax on bubble gum, packet of chips or food from street. Canada pays 14% regardless of who doesn't earn a dollar or $1b, on sales tax alone.
2) Below 40k needs to pay small amount. We need taxes. We've to take loans to govern country.
3) I'm not saying rich shouldn't pay tax. You said leave the poor people out of tax because the gov't buys mercedes and is corrupt. To this I said, if gov't is corrupt and buys mercedes and this is excuse of poor, why should rich pay tax? It'd not make any difference.
4) The entire middle class does NOT pay tax. Examples I gave you, sales tax collection is low and many people avoid income tax, property tax etc.
5) Islam has said poor don't pay tax. But who are poor? Are poor people who make $1 a day or $3? or no income at all? If Pakistan was entirely poor nation, how can it survive then? Off a single billionare who happens to be president? What if there is no billionare? Don't drag islam into taxation. Now people using Islam to not pay tax!
6) The low income, not poor, pay tax for roads, airports. The rich alone don't use it.
7) Read what I said. I mentioned 1% and even .5%. And one day it's 7 rupees. Let's say they've to pay 30 rupees a tax per month. Are you going to times it by a year and say that it is 360 rupees and gives one day of food to a family?
8) Transport will be cheaper, school will be free, if taxes are paid. Maybe not enough taxes, but still make a progress.

So yes, future posts will not be read and entertained. If you've questions, go read my post again. I'm no economist (though studying) and what I say is just an example. I'm ready tonsacrifice a days roti, because I'm not selfish.

We can't agree onto what a good lifestyle is. Some people will consider themselves poor because they don't have a backyard swimming pool.

There is no defination to poverty. I was just as happy in Pakistan as I'm here, as both places i've faced hardship. In both placws I felt poor. I didn't have phone in Pakistan, I can't afford one here.

Well be it your definition or mine poverty prevails and it ain't ending even if you go to the richest place in the world. The poor and rich exist everywhere the problem is of honest and dishonest people.
I don't totally blame others the poor people here are responsible for it, I wish they could be loyal to the nation and would care for it above their personal benefits. Here the bribe works. My uncle claims to pay bribe from the peon to the head just in order to get a file signed..which is disgusting but if you dont you cant get your file signed.

And above that the worst thing about the world is that its come to figures only. Everyone has money as their first priority but not the one who actually holds the authority to give them and everyone is putting full effort to make as much money as they can as if it can buy them anything ..in case of Pakistan it might but in case of humanity it can't

No no go buy a juice and read it you'll be paying at least three rupees as tax on it even.

And Tax is not a liability for someone who cant afford it and will suffer twice as much if he pays it. I am not emphasizing for people not to pay tax but I am pretty okay with the rule and limit set for taxation. I don't think a labor should be paying taxes unless he earns a good amount.

Well then happily do it.. I am already doing it and will be doing it too.. but still no need to ask someone who barely affords to eat to pay tax as 7 rupees make alot for them

Well, this is the cost of my car key, in case I have to have it replaced....
In other words, Pakistani minimum wage is worth what my car key cost ..120.00 USD

While in my case, just my car key is worth the salary of many a Pakistanis..
Though there is nothing to boast about...
