Pakistan left India behind in field of research, stands beside China in research technology

He has credibility as an individual perhaps, but he needs to back up his claims with some empirical data.

@waz provided data to counter Atta-ur-Rehman’s claim, so where’s AR’s data to back up his claim?

In all honesty bro I did it with the best of intentions. People will literally mock and ridicule this, and our more astute Indian posters would pick it apart.
The other issue is that it lulls people i.e. Pakistani folk into a false sense of progress when clearly the evidence suggests there isn't.
Surely no one wants to sell the country short?

True only if he meant pak+china..India is doing fairely good in r&d but still lot much more to do in the areas of IPR and product development....we mainly remain the service industry which has to change but considering the mass employment opportunities generated by service industry i think its ok if we take some more time

Well let me tell you how it works in the scientific world. Professors of the highest reputes, their words have a lot more value than even many normal journals or low quality website. Dr Atta-ur-Rehman is among the foremost scientists in multiple domain he is on panels of the best scientific journals in the world...including the nature. So a third class website created by a teenager has no value. BTW, how can you take the data published on that website as credible? who is backing it up? There are thousands of videos on youtube where teenagers rank everything from universities to programming languages ....

Furthermore, the newspaper has not reported it in a proper way since these are not scientific people but I'm 100% sure if Dr. Atta has said, he would have the data and every reason to say so ... because it is his name & reputation and not some anonymous person with an imaginary ID on a social forum.

Per Capita GDP of Singapore is higher...BTW Singapore has a population of about 5 million and GB about 65 million...

Pakistan is doing relatively better is some fields than India...here are some....

Pakistan beats India in race to become Cern associate member

“Pakistan has been a strong participant in CERN’s endeavours .. technology since the 1990s,” said Rolf Heuer. “Bringing nati ..

Thought the Drs remarks were specifically with regard to Healthcare research. At least that’s how I read it.
Also, not sure if participation or becoming an associate member of CERN translates to achieving parity with China or surpassing India in terms of research.
It’s a good achievement for Pakistan nonetheless. No one can take that away from you.

One cannot become an associate member with no substantial research and contribution, talking about CERN....there are quite a few other fields as well.

ISLAMABAD - The Former Minister for science and technology. Atta-Ur-Rehman said that Pakistan has left India behind in the field of Research and now stands beside China in progress towards research technology Dr. Atta revealed the fact during the international conference on “Endorsing Health Science Research” held at Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan Auditorium, Ojha Campus of the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS).

Dr. Rehman informed the members of the conference that due to the establishment of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in Pakistan the research field has witnessed a significant boost. He said that the budget allocated for research and technology has been raised from 1 million rupees to 20 million rupees.

The former minister advised that Pakistan should increase the budget of the private research sector as the countries who are focusing on private research are progressing rapidly.

He stated, *“China spends 60 percent on its private research sector and country like Singapore with 5.5 million population is exporting approximately 330 billion dollars due to which GDP of Singapore is more than the Great Britain which was, in fact, a colony of the latter in the older times”*

PM Imran Khan held first meeting upon arrival at Tehran
Dr. Atta said Pakistan should focus on the trading and exporting of science and technology items. He mentioned that the country has been at a great loss by ignoring science and technology.

Congratulations. May you keep improving like this.

According to the article you posted, it says that red tapism is the reason India hasn’t become a member of CERN. Don’t think that indicates that quality of research is better in Pakistan compared to India, and don’t believe that India not being a member while Pakistan being one was because of the “quality” of research or one being surpassed by the other.

I don’t think this is the example to prove the point you’re trying to make.

Perhaps looking at the number of patents filed by each country might provide a better idea.

One cannot become an associate member with no substantial research and contribution, talking about CERN....there are quite a few other fields as well.

Also, based on the CERN website, both Pakistan and India are CERN associate members.

I'm sorry that's not correct. India has made leaps in research and has churned out industries as a result. He shouldn't make claims like this.
Look at the ranking for research papers;

https://www.scimagojr.com/countryrank.php

India at number 9, Pakistan at 46.

One thing I noticed in this thread is the difference between India and Pakistani respond to BS articles. Most Pakistani correct bragging bull crap. Whereas most Indians would agree with the similar bull crap.

So this thread shows that Pakistanis are grounded in reality, like the rest of the world besides Indians.
