ISLAMABAD - The Former Minister for science and technology. Atta-Ur-Rehman said that Pakistan has left India behind in the field of Research and now stands beside China in progress towards research technology Dr. Atta revealed the fact during the international conference on “Endorsing Health Science Research” held at Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan Auditorium, Ojha Campus of the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS).

Dr. Rehman informed the members of the conference that due to the establishment of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in Pakistan the research field has witnessed a significant boost. He said that the budget allocated for research and technology has been raised from 1 million rupees to 20 million rupees.

The former minister advised that Pakistan should increase the budget of the private research sector as the countries who are focusing on private research are progressing rapidly.

He stated, *“China spends 60 percent on its private research sector and country like Singapore with 5.5 million population is exporting approximately 330 billion dollars due to which GDP of Singapore is more than the Great Britain which was, in fact, a colony of the latter in the older times”*

PM Imran Khan held first meeting upon arrival at Tehran
Dr. Atta said Pakistan should focus on the trading and exporting of science and technology items. He mentioned that the country has been at a great loss by ignoring science and technology.

In what area of healthcare research is Pakistan ahead of India?
Can you please point out the specific areas you are aware of instead of providing a broad sweeping statement?

.
both, india is 7 times bigger than Pakistan thus should do 7 times better in R&D than Pakistan but I do not believe it is any more. since Modi came they've been busy doing research on things like cow excretions and social sciences (arts of manipulation)

It does;

Pakistani published research documents stand at
127,817

India stands at;

1,472,192

i.e. more than what would be multiplied by 7.

As a nation they also spend more as a percentage of GDP on R & D.

did you also take into account the base both countries started at? and did yo make allowance for the distractions Pakistanis keep getting dragged into?

Yes India had a slight head start, but look at the population size. As for distractions, plenty of nations have those, it's up the rulers to limit the damage caused by them.

.
Another Water Car type feel good statement. Jingos may very well believe him.

BTW Headstart and distractions do not matter in R&D.

.
He should explain how with just 20 Million spending, Pakistan left India behind and stands with China. Don't embarrass the country with false claims.

GDP of Singapore : 350 Billion
GDP of UK : 2.75 Trillion

No wonder he claims same regarding R&D .

.
I just pointed facts but you are taking to the heart...very weak mind indeed but ...
Just a fun fact from the site you consider as the divine word, India 9, Sweden 18... now tell me is India more advanced than even Sweden which stays at top in innovation and Research per capita in the world? Do you have any answers to don't get your dhotti in a twist and think logically.

You didn't point to any facts what so ever, if so please provide the link. You went personal, like I said that's weak.
Of course India is not on the level of Sweden, and we have to bring in a whole different set of benchmarks which this thread is not about. You called out my credibility when I presented a simple flaw that everyone else has picked up on i.e. that Pakistan is way ahead of India in terms of research, all I am asking you where and how and prove it.
As for the dhoti comment you might wear one I don't.

Per Capita GDP of Singapore is higher...BTW Singapore has a population of about 5 million and GB about 65 million...

Definitely the honourable Dr Atta-ur-Rehman has a lot more credibility than you.

Pakistan is doing relatively better is some fields than India...here are some....

A highly ridiculous thread, with a ridiculous claim, by a ridiculous person, to say the least.

Folks here is some more solid data regarding this ;

India

R&D spending as % of GDP
0.8%

R&D spending in PPP$
$48,063.0M

R&D spending by sector of performance

Business $17,044.0M
Government $29,066.8M
Universities $1,952.3M
Private non-profit . $0.0
Unspecified $0.0

HUMAN RESOURCES
Number of researchers per million inhabitants

Pakistan

R&D spending as % of GDP
0.3%

R&D spending in PPP$
$2,458.4M

R&D spending by sector of performance
Government $1,648.5M
Universities $809,886.5k

Only plus here is that Pakistan has slightly more researchers per million, but with the sheer disparity in funds that's a problem for them.

these are the list of Govt research institutes and their areas of interest, and yes our research papers are not crap sir, we work hard and skillfully to get our jobs, the number of research papers could be far more then present figure, but our current mindset works in a way to secure a good job first, it will take time before we contribute to the world again like we did together in ancient times, i wish Pakistan could end its enmity and starts something on the lines of US Canadian relations, where we can develop medicines, rockets, technolgy to serve both indo-pak and the world...
