Pakistan interested in buying T-50 trainer and 1500 HP engines from South Korea

L-15 are new and I think PAF is interested in T-50 since 2010 or even before. I am sure 100-150 will be a nice number.

Any more details on the JF-17B would be highly appreciated. This is something we have been waiting for a long time.

The Americans will block South Korea from selling any sensitive technology to Pakistan; that is, if the Koreans agree in the first place (in any concrete terms, not just lip service) since Pakistan is close to China while South Korea is aligned with the United States and Japan against China. This is just more day dreams and wishful thinking from defence.pk fanboys that the South Koreans will sell the T-50s to Pakistan. If they do, it would be awesome but don't count your chickens just yet.

100% agreed with you. There is nothing better than indigenously developed capability. As more and more version and variants of JF-17 are developed, Pakistan moves closer to the goal of indigenous aircraft development.

USA has stopped the sale of T-50 to Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan isn't even a major buyer of American equipment, so it's no surprise to see the U.S reign down on the T-50 deal with them so heavily. But how can we extrapolate and apply that case to Pakistan? The PAF operates F-16 Block-52+ and the PAA is on-track to inducting AH-1Z, plenty of advanced technology in both cases. Worst case scenario the U.S would ask PAF to put contractors on-scene in Risalpur or something to keep an eye out for illicit technology transfers, assuming the PAF is indeed interested in the T-50.

I think it's a larger deal that may include the shipyard project, 1500hp engine and advance trainer, might also include some Joint R&D project.

Here are current options for advance trainer....

1) KAI / Lockheed Martin T-50 Golden Eagle.

2) Hongdu JL-10 / L-15 Falcon

3) Yakovlev Yak-130 (Mitten)

4) Guizhou JL-9 Shanying (FTC-2000 Mountain Eagle)

5) Alenia Aermacchi M-346 Master

The strange part of this deal is the fact that PAF is looking at T-50 when it has other equally viable - if not better - options. Something has to be afoot and I agree with @jupiter2007 that buying T-50 might be the cost of acquiring more fundamental (and more important) technological R&D support, especially in electronics (for the sake of developing avionics, ECM/EW and radars in the future).

2016 is an optimistic guesstimate.

Block-3 deliveries to begin from the last quarter of 2016.
