Pakistan has 326m barrels in oil reserves, Senate informed

Yea they need to update their info, because these dont include the coal reserves found in Thar, Pakistan..which wikipedia just updated in their list

Coal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

According to your link 900 billion tonn is total reserve ..Kazakistan with 3% of that reserve has been mentioned along countries with highest coal reserves thats mean kazakistan has 27billion tonn of reserve..If pakistan has more than 118 billion tonn of reserve why they are mentioning khazakistan ..

It said below the list that "Recent discoveries in the Thar region of Pakistan have given rise to a discovery of nearly 185 billion tonnes. [2] "

They didnt include it in the list and these reserves are not yet tapped.

Gawadar deep sea where US is eying for a long time it has one of the riches of the world with enuf oil to serve Pakistan for many years to come. So stupid to say Pakistan has 2 years of oil reserves...

If Pakistan sooner starts projects for Gawadar Oil and Thar Coal Pakistan can make billions of dollars yearly...They don't call Gawadar as Jewel of a crown its not port only its the resources underneath deep sea. Projects we should've executed in 1980's we haven't been able to execute now and before its too late Pakistan must start working on it with in a couple of years...When it comes to energy China is always ready to work with us but each of our govt is for some reason backing out perhaps again US intervention in all matters pertaining success of Pakistan.

Ya gotcha..
That means pakistan now has almost 17% of world coal reserves 3rd in world... :congrats..
but news paper articles are not that much reliable ..I think.

Pakistan has more than 326 million barrels of oil

That means on corrent price it will total around 12 billion US$ not bad:cheesy:

Yea our 2 southern provinces are rich in natural resources, I wish our politicians would tap these natural resources already.

Dubai was just a desert before they tapped their natural resources and look at it now.

By the way, Gwadar also has lots of strategic importance for Pakistan, it connects oil rich Middle East to resource rich Central Asia to China, the world's largest population.

As for the coal found in Thar in Sindh Pakistan should work on to make good use out of it. Recently the Koreans and British are investing on the Thar project.

pakistan coal reserve is 185 billion tonne

That means total value of these coals 18500 billion $:cheesy:not too bad

True imagine if in next 2021 Gawadar through port/shipping and Oil extraction plus Thar Coal project brings in collectively as low as $25 billion dollars yearly which is an extreme low levels of revenue if projects are started the soonest with transparency...along with parellel current economy that might have improved as well We might pay off all Foreign Debt and be debt free country and use our money free at will to get anything like kid dream for...

How did Arabs exploit their natural resources?

Dubai was nothing but a desert before they found their natural resources.

Arabs Iranian leased it to the west, but they had no consumption of their own. Our case is different. We give these areas to western companies as per Petroleum Policy 2001. Based on these policy we have to pay them the international price. Govt benefit from these but not the common man. Energy is something where we should have exclusive ownership so that we provide our industry energy at lower rate to make them competitive with the world.

Bro unless we find some oil and gas there we can not be sure that they are oil and gas rich area. Its only a myth that Pakistan discovered alot of oil and gas near Iranian border but Shah gave GOP money not to exploit it. Fact is that at the moment Pakistan is in energy crisis where we can only pray to Allah that we find some oil and gas reserves.

Why would Shah of Iran give GoP money not to expolit gas and oil in Pakistani territory? Anyways we assume that Balochistan is rich in oil and especially gas. Thar, Sindh has the third largest coal reserves in the world. All these natural resources of Pakistan is untapped...what is Pakistan waiting for?
Pakistan is a nation and just like every nation that has natural resources, Pakistan must exploit these resources so the nation can be economically stable.

Pakistanis have suffered enough throughout history, its time Pakistanis enjoy too now.

I thought the 186 billion coal reserves found in Thar was substantial for Pakistan's energy needs. The article made a mistake Pakistan doesn't have 186 million coal reserves, Pakistan has 186 billion coal reserves mostly in Thar, Sindh.

Hate to be a spoil sport but to date there has been no concrete evidence that Pakistan has any extra ordinary abundance of mineral resources. I am surprised at some naïve posts where people are quantifying oil and gas in terms of billions of dollars and feeling pleased.

Please understand that the oil import bill of Pakistan during high prices of 2007-2008 touched $14-billion in 12 month period. So what if we have $30-billion worth of oil reserves? On the international scale; Middle East countries have proven reserves of 300-billion barrel? One thousands time more than Pakistan has!

For the nth time; please understand that Thar coal is brown coal or Lignite, lowest grade of coal. If this could solve our energy problems, why do you think we import 2-million tons of coal every year to meet Steel and Cement Industry demand? And why are we wiling to invest in $7-billion IPI gas pipeline?

Thar coal needs huge investment and the result would only be good for use in power generation and not good enough to replace good quality bituminous coal or anthracite for use in cement and steel industries. We have quantity but not quality. Thar coal can help in meeting power shortage but will not solve Pakistan’s energy problem.

Now to Pakistan’s Copper reserves. Comparing it with world major copper producers, we find that Chile produced 5.5-milion tons of Copper each year, more than total Pakistani reserves. USA, Indonesia and Australia each produce one million tons of Copper each year. Understand Pakistan’s annual production is about 20,000 tons.

Not one of the OPEC countries despite their oil wealth matter much in world affairs. Some African countries, such as Zambia ( produces half a million tons of copper each year) or Nigeria ( 2-million barrels per day of oil or equal to twice Pakistan’s reserves in one year) are rich in natural resources but where are these countries in human development?

On the other hand a tiny European country, Austria with a total population of 8-million has GDP of $317-billion, nearly 3 times of Pakistan and almost equal to that of Saudi Arabia which produces 10-miilion barrels per of oil (entire Pakistan reserves in one month!). Austrian nationals enjoy one of the highest standards of living in the world. Thus quality of human resource is what really matters, not what one can get out of the ground.

My dear compatriots, isn’t about time that we grow up and accept the fact that most important resource is the human resource. We have the potential as evidenced by the fine work done by our scientists in the nuclear field.

If we want to matter in the community of nations, we will have to improve the quality of our human resource. This can only be done through mass education and improvement in the quality of education in other words, quantity with quality.

Instead, half the population seems to have been brainwashed by the mullahs into believing that education for women and taking polio drops is un Islamic. Even some members of this forum seem to be unable to find in their hearts to condemn such Dark Age beliefs outright. Maulana Sami ul Haq is justifying attacks of girls schools that these were use as army posts. Fazlullah has condescended to allow girls to be educated up to class 4th at the same time saying that we don’t accept education system of the Lord Macaulay. If this continues, Pakistan is not going anywhere.
