What's new

Pakistan gets second F22-P frigate PNS Shamsheer

HURRAY WE HAVE GET OUR SECOND ONE ONE MORE TO GET BY THE END OF 2010 AND THEN 5 MORE EXPECTED TO BE RECEIVED

.
I don’t want to be a Grinch but most modern navies have phased out frigates(especially the kind we’re acquiring). The United States hauled it’s 300 plus fleet to Indian ship breaking yards..

Shouldn't the money of been spent on modern military hardware rather obsolete sitting ducks?

Frigates we have are there to protect our ports

They have Anti Submarine warfare cabapilities

They have Surface to Air , killing capabilities to launch missles to bring down enemy war planes

The Harbin Z-9EC anti-submarine warfare (ASW) helicopter is equipped with a surface-search radar, low frequency dipping sonar, radar warning receiver, doppler navigation system and armed with torpedoes.[18] The helicopter can be armed with one torpedo on the starboard side.

You put together 14-15 of these frigates, and then combine that with lethal Submarine force , you get a good defence of ports - with support from Air Force

16 is a good number for Pakistan Navy after that we can focus on Submarine deals we should have 10-15 submarines as well -

it is really amazing to go through such reckless comments. bro can you please just clearify what makes you call a new modren frigate, equipped with good modren eqipments as obsolete.... specially in a navy where we have only been operating retired old second hand equipment.
you better do some home work to study the capabilities of the F22p frigate, then you should try to search some info regarding its role in PN. you will find the thread about F22p frigate a nice place to start with.
i hope you are not annoyed by this, it is just a brotherly request.
thanks

Hi,

First of all we are a poor third world country and that is what we can afford to best meet our needs---modern navies have not phased out their frigates persay, but have used them to the best of their abilities and capabilities righ to the end of their needed service life.

One person's trash is another person's treasure trove---whereas their capabilities have taken them across higher thresholds---we have yet to wet our feet in the vast oceans. Where the others have mothballed Oliver Hazard class frigates---we think it is a big bonus to have one.

This is indeed modern millitary hardware for us---kiddo---neither we have the abillity to absorb the technology of modern navy nor we have the capability to maintain it nor do we the funds to afford---jitni chaddar utney paoon---we spread our feet according to our abilities. thankyou.

totally agree with you sir, to add more to it, F22P perfectly fitss into the list of vessels suitable for PN both financially and technically. moreover with ToT a part of the deal the F22p accqisition is set to work good for Pakistan Navy future...
atlast we wont have to look toward US even to repaint it...
i hope people understand this point!!

thanksyou

These frigates are just a waste of funds they are sitting ducks.PN should invest every cent in subs

. .
Assuming you know the story of the Swedish sub With AIP which not only sank several nuclear subs in war games with america without being detected but also sank the american aircraft carrier.USN got so worried that initially they leased that sub for one year and now extending the lease for one more year.this more than justifies the subs.also what happend to british destroyers in falkland they took quite a beating from Exocets.

.
Brother submarines are part of a capable Navy, not THE navy. Could you imagine the huge pressures you would place sub crews under? You would certainly make the job of ASW far easier for the Indians, if they knew the only threat they face are subs and the surface is clear of any sort of vessel…..

so according to your analysis, a submarine is soltution for ever naval job. its the mother of all naval inventions and those countries and navies who operate other naval ships/eqipment are a bunch of ediots willing to waste thier precious resources.:disagree::disagree::disagree:
you need to clear your head and need to find out the role and pupose of a wepon.

adios

Would have been better that you had first analyzed the capabilities of both ships and submarines before issuing your analysis.

Do submarines carry SAM systems ?? Can they have radars for searching hundreds of miles area and then launch AshM to target enemy ships. Can submarine launch helicopters to enlarge the area under surveillance ?? Would submarine be helpful in countering dozens of IN ships who would be harassing our shipping lanes as submarines have no long range radars to detect where IN ships would be and where not.

And as for your above examples, AIP submarines are the quietest of all, as it makes very very less sound and moves very slowly in water, while Nuclear submarines no matter how silent still have to counter the non-stop voice being generated by the nuclear reactors which made them prone to getting detected.

And as for the Falklan war, the CIWS were not perfect and as advanced as they are now, so any good CIWS can take care of AshM nowadays.

Without comparing the advantages and disadvantages of both platforms, giving such a statement is not a wise step. Take into account what both platforms are used for.

i never said that the submarine is the solution for every naval job.its just that pakistan doesn't have the resources to put up a huge surface fleet.A sub can do the offensive work that would require many surface ships.and all the other countries either have offensive doctrines or huge budget to waste.PN has a defensive doctrine and there's no need to build an armada the 4 were enough. And if surveillance and ASW is the objective of surface ships as pointed out by my brother PN should not even buy new surface ships second hand will work because they will be cheap and PN will be able to buy more hence increasing their numbers will mean increased surveillance at the same price. The only concern though is the life of second hand ships.

i understand your concerns sir, but we are not as bad economically as we look. if you look arround, we have been going under an armed forces modernisation program for the past few years, major examples of this are Alkhalid, (Alkhalid 1 nd 2 in development) for Army, goodies like Jf-17s,FC 20s,new block F-16s AWACS of different origions ,Il-78 A2A refullers, etc for airforce and New frigates and your favorate subs for our navy. these all are multi billion projects and our milatary top brass which is quite professional do know what to buy, when to buy, how to buy and who to buy from.
so dont worry and be sure that the decision taken buy pak navy is on soild and valid grounds. They are more then contented with the product thats why the have decided to increase the number, which makes sense, further there are some speculations that pak navy is looking to buy even a havier frigate platform from chiana. now comming to the subs, pakistan is in talks with germany for the procurment of U-214, hope they strike the deal soon, but lately the indian media is claiming that germans are no more intersted to work with pakistan as india may be more lucrative market for them,i.e, more subs and probable eurofighter sale for MMRCA. but this all is speculation and may be propaganda by india, so far as no independent media has confirmed such developments. however even if U- boats doesnt make thier way to pakistan, international markets are open, like france and even china can come up with effective pakeges. so thier is a need for new subs and they will be acquired at all costs, but that doesnt mean other nacassities will be shuddered because of that. you need to see at the larger picture.
hope you get the idea.
