What's new

Pakistan discusses Su-35, S-400, T-90 MBT purchase with Russia.

.
Why are PAF obsessed with F16's? Aren't they a bit old? What is so special about an F16?
Number of reasons ...Historic love with what was once the best multirole fighter ... existing facilities & set up ... a lot of experience n flying hours on falcons ... relatively low cost solution compared to EFT, rafael, f15s ....

. . .
Pak can buy them in small numbers like Indonesia or Malaysia.

Basically, if India has already decided to not include Russia in some large-scale contract or bid, hence giving Russia nothing to lose by extending a loan to Pakistan and selling it planes.
Bilal u see any juice in this news we definitely need a bigger plane with F16 s chances r getting remote day by day. Why not start induct them like Mi35 small badges.

24 to 30 new Su 35 r around 2 billions that not big amounts when compare with any western jet today.

.
Well if we saved money from F16 not purchased , that means the
  • 2.9 Million per Tank or 3.0 Million per Tank can be purcahed with Long term planning
How many Tanks can we land with budget of 1 Billion?

Su-35 is a heavy ticket item and with the new Indian tender (yet again); it is posturing.
Pak is trying to show that it has this option and it becomes a bargaining chip to squeeze US planes (may be but unlikely as long as TIT is in power).

Nah we don't need US stuff it's over, any sane Pakistani national Knows this
It is time to diversify our option deal with all nations of world

No money, no honey...

Russians will be less inclined to give the aircraft on a risky credit venture to Pakistan while also risking their some-what shacky yet still more $$$ful relationship with India.

:(

IMO there's no Pakistani posturing. It's a lot simpler than that ... in 2016, IHS Jane's said the PAF had a requirement of 30-40 twin-engine fighters for deep-strike and to shore-up its maritime operations assets.

The mainstay - esp. in the strike-role - are the 50-60-year old Mirage ROSE. They're fine assets, but they're old and aren't getting cheaper to keep them in the air, especially at the level that's likely required to sustain frequent strikes w/SOWs and ALCMs.

Ultimately, this will be resolved with Project Azm/FGF, but realistically, it is far from a near-term factor. So the PAF will need to induct something through the 2020s to take the load off the Mirages.

Why Su-35 not F-15SA or mig-35?

If you buy Su-35 then you have ate least 3 kind of engines to maintain. With F-15SA or Mig-35 you just need to maintain F110 and RD93.

The issue for Pakistan isn't cash (because it doesn't have any), but whether Russia is willing to extend a line-of-credit to back a Su-35 deal (and other arms). It ultimately falls unto how much risk Russia is willing to absorb to get a few regions some manufacturing work. IMO the only way it can happen is if India has already done something to alleviate Russia's risk.
I frankly don’t care much for the flankers- the chinese make suitably good variants of their own.

What is needed battalion and long range sam systems.
It doesn’t have to be the S-400 so India can’t complain directly (they’ll complain anyway)..the S-350e system is actually a great system as well.

The T-90 has its own thread, but I wouldn’t touch that system.
