KARACHI (APP) – Pakistan Navy has increased all-round surveillance at Gwadar Port with the commencement of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project.

This was stated by Pakistan Navy spokesman while briefing newsmen, who undertook an extensive tour of Gwadar site.

He said a special Marine Battalion had been raised for security of Gwadar, Chinese engineers and delegates visiting the port.

He said Gwadar, the main destination of the CPEC, will be linked with China’s western region through a rail and road network.

Terming the Gwadar Port `backbone’ of CPEC, he said Pakistan Navy is making strenuous efforts for ensuring comprehensive security as well as for the welfare of local people.

The Marines arent really special, they are not equivalent to the US Marines; after all their main purpose is just to guard rivers.

Pakistan Navy has deployed a special marine battalion for increased all-round surveillance at Gwadar Port ahead of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project.

“A special Marine Battalion has been raised for security of Gwadar, Chinese engineers and delegates visiting the port,” Radio Pakistan was quoted as reporting by Dawn news daily Tuesday.

“Gwadar, the main destination of the CPEC, will be linked with China’s western region through a rail and road network,” a Pakistani Navy spokesperson said.

Gwadar Port is the ‘backbone’ of CPEC and the Pakistan Navy making strenuous efforts for ensuring comprehensive security for foreigners as well as locals, he added.

An official agreement on the corridor was signed between the two countries in May this year during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s historic visit to Pakistan.

Excellent. Gwadar is a essential for Baluchistan's and all of Pakistan's future.

Hope these marine given state of art equipment in future
Future? Considering how important CPEC is for Pakistan, I have little doubt that they're being provided the best Pakistan can afford.

Funds are still relatively limited, but if it were possible one day, the Marines should get the AH-1Zs as well as UH-1Y. Top it off with a CSOC LHD (22,000 tons), LPD or two as well as a solid scale up in terms of infantry training and equipment, we'd have a pretty good Marines and expeditionary element. Do we have mini islands that are big enough to serve as bases?

I'd like to correct your sentence a little. The CPEC is starting from Baluchistan and obviously the port of Gawader. But Pakistan's future growth is 60% dependent upon Baluchistan, her safety and growth. Baluchistan has become the heart of Pakistan and it'll feed the "economic blood" if you will (or the trade activity) to the entire Pakistan and to a region of a billion additional people outside of Pakistan. So its Baluchistan that they are starting to safeguard, not just Gawader. Although initially, this Marine force is starting out from Gawader!!

Which is why I said "Pakistan can afford". Funds are limited, but every expense revolving around CPEC is being made, keeping in mind that this is a long term investment. Pakistan will make all it's money back within a decade after it's completion.

This is the interesting part. The little investment Pakistan is making compared to the Chinese, Pakistan will be in surplus within 24 months of this thing going live (granted the route does take the expected transportation its suppose to). For China, its a long term investment as they've got over $ 30 billion involved in here.

This is also one of the reason I pretty much say on every negative, "I hate NS" post that there is pretty much nothing Pakistan invested, but the Chinese, through their investment, provided Pakistan probably the best opportunity she can find. There is no need to be negative about it as Pakistan will transform socially, culturally and economically from this program. So participate in your country's growth rather than playing individual politics!
