This is ridiculous. The minorities are like 2-3% of the population, i do agree they should be given a holiday on their festivals but to announce a nationwide holiday on these events is just stupid.

Be Grateful to your country for its liberal policies and say Thanks even something is done for 2-3% of the population!

A nationwide holiday shouldnt be declared for people who make up 1% of our population.

Christian are largest community among minorities..

Not a bad idea it will present Pakistan as moderate country instead of a country run or influence by religious bigots .it will impove Pakistan's image.in our country we have public holy day in 25th December Xmas days for all though Cristians are less than 1 %

Minor correction. The US is a bit odd. There are 11 Federal holidays. Some states take additional days. Some companies do not take all those days, or take different days. The company I work for has 10 holiday days on the calendar (2 for Thanksgiving) and two "personal holidays" - you can just pick two days and take them off with pay.

Holiday may mean something different in different countries. In the US, "holiday" does not mean people cannot do business, just that the government is taking the day off. Many stores are open most holidays - Thanksgiving being the biggest exception where everything is closed.

In any case, Easter, Diwali, and Holi are not government recognized holidays anywhere in the US. But, Sunday is a day off for most people anyhow, and Easter always is a Sunday, so that's a bit hard to figure.

Christmas is the only "religious" holiday in the US. And it is really not all that religious for probably a majority of people.
