KARACHI: Pakistani authorities deployed nearly 10,000 police and paramilitary troops in Karachi Monday at the start of this week's international defence exhibition, officials said.
More than 250 companies from nearly 60 countries, including the United States, France, Germany, China and Turkey, are participating in the biennial show of military hardware organised by Pakistan's defence production ministry.
‘More than 7,000 police officials have been deployed while around 2,500 paramilitary Rangers are there for the security purpose,’ Wasim Ahmed, Karachi's police chief, told AFP.
Organisers said this year's theme for the five-day show was ‘Arms for Peace,’ a repeat of the theme for the previous exhibition in 2006.
Pakistan's traditional rival India has not been invited, an official said.
A major attraction this year will be the static display of JF-17 Thunder aircraft, jointly produced by China and Pakistan.
About 100 high-level meetings have been planned on the sidelines of the exhibition.
Pakistan's military-run defence industry exports arms and ammunition worth more than 100 million dollars annually to countries in the Middle East, Asia and Africa.

For the last time: Pakistan was never invited to any Aero India shows. China has only been invited once and Iran didn't come for the last show

i dont know about the airshow, but we have a military exhibition IDEAS after every two years and you are never invited in it.

we have Aero india every year...
till now u have never been invited..
is IDEAS a air show...?

i don't want to troll more here but we don't need to have our own airshow right now because of financial problems.
but what i heard recently, IDEAS soon going to have an air show with it.although there is an Arial display and a firepower display some times, but no particular air show.
we really don't need such market where third world and poor countries cant buy arms.
So enjoy your wealthy and show off display of costy birds

I mean c'mon guys, PAF and PLAAF wont ever like to participate in an airshow of arch rival. Even if they would have invited PAF, it would not have taken its core fleet i.e. JFT on hostile territory. Likewise can be said for India. I think there are other airshows around the globe in which participation would worthwhile. Mods, please close the thread!!!!!!

what we have to display there, Jf-17 which is a low cost all weather multirole fighter. about eight countries have eye on it. most of them are third word countries. many more showed interest in it. we already have participated in a wealthy Farnborough airshow and a friendly Zuhai air show. Got good response.

So what we have to do B/w rich punks which show off their expensive machines to aircraft fans, show some maneuvers, take photographs and go home at the end of the day.

there is no place for poor country in such an air show, who is willing to arm it military to protect themselves from such rich invader who participates in hi profile air show like this. these poor countries come to an arm display like IDEAS to fulfill their military desire. Not just to see Fancy catwalk of multimillion dollar birds.

At the end again i would like to mention, neither we invited them nor will they.
