Pakistan blames US for its polio mess

In a letter written to CIA Director, the NGOs registered serious objections to the vaccination campaign launched to collect intelligence about Al-Qaeda chief. The fact that the CIA had launched such fake campaigns was confirmed by US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta in an interview on Janurary 2012.
When CIA and Dr Shakeel Afridi were busy in Fake drive (at least for weeks probably). What was ISI and Intelligentsia doing?

They do and one is enough for paranoid, uneducated folks. Sad story. But we are trying and our workers are still going through with the drive. Even though their lives are at risk. But this strain came from Afghanistan and these assholes are *** backwards.

Beyond that if possible.

...A senior U.S. official with knowledge of the immunization program defends it. “The vaccination efforts were both limited and, more importantly, real,” he says. “They were conducted by genuine medical professionals. The idea that these were in any way fake is simply mistaken. Many Pakistani children received vaccinations, and if the effort had not been interrupted by the arrest of the doctor, they would have been fully immunized.link

So, why doesn't the GoP have an entirely Pakistani (no foreign aid or foreign group involvement) program of childhood vaccination? Why does Pakistan even need/allow foreign NGO's to operate in places like FATA or Khyber Pakhtunkhwa? And my point about "non-Quranic" is that any modernization program that is not specifically sanctioned by the Quran can be opposed by radical Islamists as being haram. If they so choose, they can oppose de-salinization plants on this basis. If the rest of Pakistani society is too complicit in accepting their "religious" argument, they can get away with it and can recruit madrassa students to blow up themselves and de-salinization workers! I personally believe that Pakistan must develop a culturally agreed upon (i.e., overwhelmingly and commonly held understanding) of the need for the separation of Mosque and State before the scourge of Islamic terrorists will be defeated.

1. Pakistan does not need foreign aid. NGOs and foreign aid serve to warm the pockets of corrupt politicians. And when a proper federal government is in power, the NGOs will be kicked out.

2. You are arguing that Islamists WILL target de-salinisation plants (modernization). That is not a convincing argument when not a single thing has been heard about that. You are making assumptions.

3. Most militant groups in Pakistan are motivated by attacks on their sovereignty (Drone attacks, CIA agents, Blackwater etc). The few hardliners that exist are funded by CIA and Saudi Arabia (Your ally) who oppose modernization and are also opposed to the peace talks the TTP want to participate in (Mind you, the TTP accepted Pakistan's consitution). Those Saudi/CIA-funded hardliners are so few that their only influence is through attacks on civilians/soldiers which means that they are widely opposed. Islamist groups (which you argue oppose modernization) such as JI are non-violent and participate fully in elections. How popular they are is evident by the fact that they have never had a prime minister in power. Also want to make it clear that JI doesn't oppose polio vaccinations, only the militants do.

4. Khyber provincial government is under proper leadership now and the Polio vaccination campaign has been restarted. Peshwar was completely vaccinated in 1-2 days with 95% success. For the first time since the epidemic, testing sewage water in Peshawar came back negative for the polio virus. The same is to follow in other areas. If society was complicit in agreeing to the militant's arguments, they wouldn't have immunized their children with 95% success rate. Therefore, your point is now proved invalid.

what if any other Agent do same thing in USA ??
i can see some idiots americans supporting this Act by CIA

it is your responsibility to eradicate poliio from your country. You have failed and also have put the world at risk of a resurgence of Polio. Stop blame games - work on counter measures first. Before it spreads further and you incur further travel restrictions- which will be a reality in case you dont rectify it.

no amoun of blaming is goin to make that polio virus go away. No amount of telling the people/kids that its an american CIA conspiracy is going to return the kid his legs. it will only stop when all children are vaccinated. do it.

off course the holy US Official wont lie about Pakistan if their lives depends on it

The foreign minister is actually correct. from 1947 to 79 it was india. Then till 89 it was the Soviets. Then till 1996 it was the northern alliance. Then they took rest till 2001 ,and that is when USA came to the blame table.

It would have been simply ridiculous if a mullah made that statement. This coming from a foreign office spokesperson is simply ludicrous. Most interesting is the fact that Pakistan was close to eradicating polio virus in 2005, when only 28 new cases were reported.

Are you sure there were no attacks on Polio workers pre 2011?

If people are interested they can read this book

This is from news article titled: Pakistan's polio workers targeted for killing:
After news emerged that the US' Central Intelligence Agency employed a doctor to run a fake hepatitis B vaccination programme in an effort to find Osama bin Laden, conspiracy theories about health workers' activities have abounded - such as claims that vaccinators mark houses to be targeted by US drones. Polio workers have been accused of being CIA operatives, and the campaign has suffered incalculable damage

TTP got paranoid after the OBL affair and started targetting workers as spies.

You know what, you can blame the entire world and cry as to why they are to the reason for your problems. But, at the end of the day, they are your countrymen and your children and no amount of blaming will save them. Better to solve the issue first, instead of giving excuses which is resulting in more disabilities and deaths. You do understand the polio is just one vaccine. There are other vaccines which are life saving, which could be the target later.

The blaming of outside forces for domestic adversity is for domestic consumption, and every government does it. The reason some countries try to prevent the population from the internet is for information exchanges like PDF, where anyone can access multiple sources of information and decide for themselves. I can only imagine that if there was no internet, then there would be no way for your average Pakistan national to find out the reality of the drone program, and see the pictures of the Predator airfield in their country to prove it was a joint US/**** operation.

Instead of blaming and finger pointing, I think the US should earmark some of the Pakistani defense funds and divert them to local organizations/Red Crescent to help with vaccine education, while at the same time understand why there is mistrust of foreign health workers.

This can be solved, and everyone should support the effort to get it done. There is no reason for innocent Pakistani children to suffer because of big-boy chess games.

No need for any U.S. official to lie on this matter; I was just making it easy for you. For collaboration, you can peruse the pages of the leaked Abbottabad report posted on Al-Jazeera. Afridi completed Stage 1 of his vaccination project before he was arrested: link
